again my Recovery drive goes missing automatically .. need "In-Place Upgrade" method fo 226x1.5699 .. LOL!
I suppose around November or December this year .. but 24H2 seems unstable for me compared with 23H2, which is now very smooth and fast
Windows 11 24H2 introduces new features and hardware requirements but shows mixed performance compared to 23H2, especially benefiting gamers with frame generation support while requiring newer CPUs and certain instruction sets. Key Compatibility & System Requirements Windows 11 23H2 supports a wider range of 64-bit CPUs, including many older ones, except first-generation AMD 64 CPUs lacking specific instructions. Windows 11 24H2 requires CPUs supporting the SSE4.2 and POPCNT instruction sets, effectively excluding older Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad systems and very early AMD models from upgrading to 24H2, forcing those users to stay on 23H2 or Windows 10. Both updates can be installed by bypassing compatibility checks using tools like Rufus for older hardware, but 24H2’s stricter CPU requirements remain a major hurdle. Performance Comparison - 23H2 often outperforms 24H2 in single-threaded CPU tasks and older games that rely heavily on single-threaded performance, such as Far Cry 6. For modern GPU-intensive DirectX 12 workloads and games, both perform similarly except when frame generation technology (e.g., NVIDIA RTX 40-series GPUs) is utilized, where 24H2 can offer up to a 17% FPS boost thanks to enhanced support for this feature. 24H2 shows better RAM allocation for multitasking but slower app startup times, which can affect daily snappiness, especially on systems with limited RAM. Certain features such as Intel’s Application Optimizations (APO) exhibit bugs on 24H2 in some gaming scenarios, occasionally causing crashes. 24H2 is a full OS swap update (not an enablement package) that includes all fixes and features up to 23H2 plus new additions primarily aimed at IT professionals and advanced users. Improved SMB (Server Message Block) signing and encryption defaults enhance network security, now requiring signing by default and supporting encrypted SMB connections. Introduction of checkpoint cumulative updates, which reduce update package sizes and improve patch installation efficiency. New AI-powered features exclusive to Copilot+ PCs, such as Live Captions for audio/video translation, Windows Studio Effects for enhanced video calls, AI-assisted art creation in Paint, and Auto Super Resolution for smoother gaming. Security enhancements including LSA (Local Security Authority) protection enablement by default, and disabling of potentially vulnerable remote mailslot protocol. Upgrade Considerations - 24H2 demands newer hardware due to CPU instruction requirements, meaning some older PCs cannot upgrade beyond 23H2 . For gamers with compatible hardware, especially those using the latest GPUs, 24H2 offers notable advantages in games supporting frame generation. Productivity users may see minimal performance gains and should weigh whether the new features or security improvements justify upgrading immediately. Bugs and slower app responsiveness in 24H2 might make 23H2 preferable for users valuing stability and smooth single-threaded performance. Summary Windows 11 23H2 is broader in compatibility and better for legacy or CPU single-threaded applications.Windows 11 24H2 introduces modern security features, improves gaming with frame generation, optimizes memory handling, and integrates AI-powered functionalities but requires newer CPUs supporting SSE4.2 and POPCNT instructions. Users should consider their hardware specifications and usage scenarios before upgrading, especially if on older PCs or using single-thread reliant applications.
You do understand that it's probably going to get worse before it gets better, right? Like microsoft keeps botching every "release" further than the previous one and they don't seem to care as Windows as a consumer OS isn't even their main income. Look at what we got for updates. "Checkpoint updates"? We have ONE and we have long since doubled the build number of it, still no new checkpoint so we can keep downloading smaller new updates. Instead we have 2.5GB updates with AI apps that aren't even present in the uupdump-made iso I have... If I were to ever install windows 11 on a PC of mine, I'd straight up just debloat a 23H2 image and never update to 24H2, support or not.
