I'm sure we can install it on older hardware with some tricks, but maybe we will "miss out" on running Android apps. Big whoop. I will miss it like I miss 3D-Paint.
They could tie activation into needing TPM. That's pretty much the only way I could see them effectively forcing the need for TPM without completely redesigning the OS. I still think that MS might relent on this if they can't get people to install enough copies of this in the first year of release. They'll probably haggle and play hardball for a while knowing that they need to have a firm stance to have a chance at pushing TPM adoption. I just don't see the benefit. I've said it before, but an encrypted drive doesn't stop malware from double-encrypting your drive. And from what I can tell that's all these chips do. They just provide hardware encryption. There might be a speed advantage over using software, but there's not a security advantage. The OS still needs to implement the protocols of security and the user still needs to avoid installing malware.
We also shouldn't be able to HWID every Consumer/Business/LTSX SKU MSFT seems to see upgrades as most important to be blocked. At least she used the term upgrading instead of updating as they like to call it.
I went to Group Policy and turned off Windows Defender in 11 Pro It does not work. Not even after a restart
In recent builds of Win10 and later they implemented tamper protection. I don't know if there is an easy 1-2 fix like just adding a GUID and flipping the GP reg key. Supposedly there are programs like Defender Control that can turn it off super fast. I'll probably dig into it after Win10 LTSC/B 2022 comes out because I'm pretty sure it will need the same thing and my script is old and just does the single reg key.
Exactly. I am sick of “Security” drivel shoved down our throats for forcing TPM. Once a user has given elevated permission to an encrypting virus demanding ransomware, they will encrypt things inside an encrypted drive. It’s like you have a protective shell over a cake to prevent it from getting eaten by worms. But if a magician spawns a worm directly inside the cake, it’s gonna get eaten regardless of how strong outer protective shell is. But gullible folks will lap it up and even praise Microsoft for it.
Personally I'm pretty happy with the .100 build, how many more releases before it goes final? 2-3? Guesses...
