Then try it as PiratePaprika said and see which is faster. Go on, then get back to us about it being less efficient than drag n drop...
There are people who still use this feature to work efficiently between programs. Microsoft should include this feature allowing users to activate it or not if neccesary.
Surely that's entirely personal preference and how ppl choose to configure and use their Windows. There's no doubting that MS have removed functionality from the new taskbar, clearly a lot of ppl like to open files by drag and drop onto a taskbar shortcut. My gripe is the removal of add toolbars, specifically the quick launch bar!
@Enthousiast FINDSTR: Cannot open ConvertConfig.ini That is the actual error, several times over, before the screen clears and the other error is shown, final one. Host OS is Windows 10 Pro 19044.1165 No errors in the Windows Defender log. I verified the UUPs folder, the ConvertConfig.ini is there, the downloaded files are there. By running manually you mean starting the command prompt and then go to folder, etc, run uup-download-windows.cmd ? Also, nice screen capture feature @Xtreme21 , good catch, but somehow that is not the error, or it does not even refer to that. Strange freaking thing either way.
The convertconfig.ini file should not be in the UUPs folder, it should be inside the extracted zip folder. By running manually i mean simply running the mentioned script named "convert-UUP.cmd". This should be how all files are present in their correct places: Code: E:\22000.160_amd64_en-us_multi_8457f286_convert>tree /a /f | Difficult stepping through the video, anyway I saw that it wasn't the error (updated my post). Wild guess, you're not running it from some long convoluted path are you? Just a test, have you tried something simple c:\WorkFolder or such like, does it find ConvertConfig.ini then?
And that has something to do with the issue at hand? And to sum up, with regards to taskbar We lost, 1. Not group programs in taskbar 2. Small Taskbar 3. Grouping in Start Menu 4. Customization of Start Menu 5. Moving/changing orientation of Taskbar 6. Drag and Drop in taskbar 7. Labels in Taskbar 8. Right click options in taskbar We gained, 1. Taskbar items in middle 2. Newly designed Start "Android-Kitkat-App-Drawer" Menu 3. Nothing
We literally gained nothing, as taskbar items in middle was already a thing in Win10, and i wouldn't call a "gain" that bootleg app drawer...
This is a clearly deliberate approach to keep WaaS (Windows as a Service) alive. They remove some features to gain freshly lists of stuff to implement on future (yearly) versions. And this could be a joke from my side, but nope...this time I'm serious.
Unfortunately, a lot of basic things are absent in Windows. For example, show current download/upload speed by hovering cursor on network icon on taskbar. Not to mention tabs in explorer. So, there is already a lot to implement. The missing "Never combine hide labels" is problametic for me as I depend on the progress update in multiple instances of same program to keep an eye on my work. Besides, browser tabs are similar in comparision and you don't see anyone rushing to remove tab labels from browsers. As a cherry on top, Microsoft Edge allows vertical tabs but MS wont allow a vertical taskbar.
In that one very specific scenario it would be faster to drag all of those icons to the task bar. You could also probably minimize the program and drag the icons to a desktop icon. I don't work at MS. I'm just trying to come up with alternatives. Most of what I'm hearing is that people are mad that their preferred way of doing things no longer works and that they are upset. I understand that as someone with OCD, but there is more than one way to do things in Windows and they all accomplish the same thing, even if they take half a second longer sometimes.
[QUOTE="murphy78, post: 1684043, member: 320415"Also there is the problem of say you do video editing with common file types like mp3, mkv, etc. Those are often associated with other programs. You would have to associate them with your video editor.[/QUOTE] This is exactly what we've been saying the whole time. If I want to edit a large amount of images, (along with the problem that certain programs would open a separate process every time with double-clicking), you can't then just quickly double click any other image after that and have them open in image viewer. So then you have to reset that to being the default, then switch it again when you want to go back to editing... dozens of times. It's not remotely a practical alternative. It would eat a ridiculous amount of time by comparison. And it goes for every single type of file you might need to edit in this way. Imagine it for audio files - dozens at a time to edit the tags, then reset the default to whatever you use to play them back. Everything down to the most basic text file editing is affected by this.
There is also one use case where you want to drop a file into a particular instance of a running program. In this case, double clicking would open the file in a new instance or for example in case of MPC-BE double clicking would make MPC-BE stop playback of current file and will open a new file. Drag-and-dropping in a already running second instance won't cause this issue.
I believe there is a misunderstanding here. I'm not mad about it, I'm just saying that Microsoft should allow users to get this feature with a toggle enabling or disabling it. I've been using Windows for quite a few years now and I'm seeing that deleting this option will cause in some scenearios a huge decrease in the productivity.
Nope, path is actually shown in the video, perhaps not clear enough, but it's E:\3\ Thank you, will do just that.
Can someone in the Seattle area please break into the offices of the UI Team at MS and tape this in every room?
