Fine then call it "The final build that gets signed off by Microsoft for production to manufacturers." It's much shorter. You're starting to piss me off about this, Enth. It's just an initialism.
The reason people use RTM and not Final is because Final doesn't mean anything. Updates are released constantly. Final isn't final if updates are released a week after.
What is it with people and names, ----- a name is just a simple reference for people. Its not like your going to hell if say RTM cant be defined to the last possible possibility. RTM is simply a term people generally understand, its what the manufacturers get first off to put on their machines in its most simple term. Even I understand that. Life is too short to get hung up over these things. What it means for 99% of people is simple, its a version you get thats the same as what you buy from the store (first release of course). Thats all most care about.
rtm for me for last few years is when cumulative update gets released on build, still buggy but you know is done and decide when to use as production
Final as in sign off date of a certain build when BLB announces it being final. Call it whatever you want, just stating that hardly anybody used that term for years, specially since users can step in at any given time.
In October it will be fun when Microsoft will releases...something not exactly identified, passed off as final (stable) version. I already can see the waves of users who will not understand anything about this whole mess.
Look, you can call it whatever you want. Just don't tell me what I'm allowed to call things. I can give my opinion and say that it makes no sense to call it a final as opposed to RTM, but I'm not telling you that you can't do it. Do you see the difference? I'm not bossing you around.
Insiders should get sign-off Build on or about 23 Sept. Public in Oct. Look at History of the Fall Release.
if you already downloaded the new store 22108.1401.9.0 an can't install manually, you have to use dism with and elevatted command prompt like this dism /online /add-provisionedappxpackage /packagepath:"C:\Update\Microsoft.WindowsStore_22108.1401.9.0_neutral___8wekyb3d8bbwe.Msixbundle" /skiplicense
Imagine if your mind thinks like this: "Nobody calls anything RTM after 10240.16384 was released, only @murph78 recently reintroduced the term" is the same as "I'm telling you not to call it RTM. I'm telling you what to do, baby-man."
You're another person that just won't let things go, so you know perfectly well what it's like. Enth told me to stop using the term RTM a while back and I asked him not to tell me what to do. He's been nagging me about the same thing ever since. He hasn't made a compelling argument against the term. He can't let it go and just let people use the language they want to use. He's stubborn, like me and you. When people keep nagging at a man, eventually the man gets upset. It doesn't matter if it's a woman or a man who does the nagging. Now let's try to be civil and stop trying to annoy each other, yes?
Can we just stop arguing with the "RTM dilema" and just refer to whatever MS is going to release at October as "GA"? (General Availability) Because that's what the general public is going to receive? If we continue arguing what is RTM, then since we already saw the auto-update feature of the OOBE we could suppose manufacturers already are working with either 22000.1 (SDK-ADK version), 22000.51 (first supposed build to have the update-on-OOBE feature) or .132 (First ISO).
Perhaps he just doesn't want to foster the continued use of the term RTM among people if official terminology no longer refers to it I personally don't think it was a dig by Enthousiast.
Sorry your intentions are good BUT this doesn't help, all this does is even add MORE to the confusion for those looking outside. As I have said, whats in a name. the vast majority people want is the same version that will initially go on sale, be it on a company machine, or in a box. Now I will debate terms to this extent. RTM is the term the people associate with that, and I would argue that term should be used just to stop confusion. Now RTM can be if some-one wants be also GA. As I have said, I just want the "RTM" version. Dont care now if I get it from UUP Dump, or ISO from M$. ------ Just need the version.
