now i am confused my friend has WINDOWS 8 PRO ENGLISH ISO AND ALSO CANT INSTALL THIS NEW PREVIEW SO ITS ONLY FOR RT VERSIONS?
Hi everyone Sorry for being a newb but I have a few questions before upgrading to Windows 8(I am on windows 7 right now) Since today the new Windows 8.1 came out..how do I go about installing this..do I first have to install Windows 8, then after its installed and I already activate it, then I go into the windows store and download the update? Since I am going into the microsoft store, do I have to create an email address for it(I assume I should not be using my own official email address for this) then after its installed the computer will restart, but will I stay activated(I will be doing phone activation) or do I have to activate again..just wanted to be sure how this works Thanks
For installing 8.1 I just recommend downloading the preview iso and using that for the install. The official ones will not be available until later but the msdn iso's have been uploaded already.
This isn't the thread for this question. You can get the 8.1 ISO from the torrent file posted here in the thread. Go back a few pages and you will find it. If you cannot get torrent then the only other option is to install Windows 8, no need for activation I THINK. Add your MS live account, doesn't have to be official, just make one if you do not have one. *Cannot use a gmail or yahoo, has to be a MS service account, outlook-hotmail.* Since this is preview, it has a timebomb meaning it will not allow you to continue to use it after a specific amount of time. This 8.1 preview will be activated already if installing from the store, if install by ISO, you will need the 8.1 preview key.
Oh I should not install windows 8, then install windows 8.1? But the windows 8.1 is just a preview release its not the full version(That doesnt come out til October I believe) so would phone activation still work and wouldnt I have that weird message near my clock saying this is just a preview release
Windows 8 isn't required to be install to install 8.1. Yes you will have the water mark. Yes you will have to install the official Windows 8.1 later on afters its official release.
I see..and Im really sorry for posting this question here I did not know..I will just go ahead and install windows 8, and not activate it til after I install windows 8.1 then I can do the phone activation..a timebomb, meaning what, in October when the full version comes out I will have to redownload the final one? I dont mind doing that
You will not be activateing by phone in the preview, you use a product key that Microsoft gives out for the preview. The preview will work until a set date then you can do a final clean install later with the rtm 8.1 version.
Any way to bypass the stupid "Connect to Microsoft account" screen? I'm going to join it to my domain just as soon as it's finished installing, don't want to connect my MS account to a throwaway local user.
