Hey there, do you know if traditional win8 activation methods still work on 8.1? Spoiler For example, Microsoft Toolkit or any KMS activator out there
ISO links are up ISO downloads are up on Windows Preview page. Link wouldn't work for me but pasting the end of the link (go.microsoft...) did DL'ing now at 3 MB/sec using IDM over ComCast.
I upgraded from Windows 7 Enterprise and it took a while but is running well. kept all my files in Old Windows
Hi there, I wanna test 8.1 Preview, but always while I install it I get a BSOD (Kernel_Security_Check_Failure) and then a rollback! Error-Code after restart => 0xC1900101-0x30018 P8Z77-V Deluxe i7-3770K 16GB G.Skill 2133MHz HD7950WF3 128GB SSD What do you think? Where is the problem? Bungling software from Microsoft? ^^
Thanks for the heads-up guys. I just downloaded the preview (full speed), took out the install.wim, installed on an old testPC (using JFX's excellent WinNTSetup, with the usual W8 tweaks and autounattend.xml), install went smooth (fully unattended and without stupid animations) without a hitch, finally after more than a year, I have a Windows 8 that boots to the desktop again. Everything else is less important to me, for me it's just like an up-to-date Windows 7. Right now, for me this one has even less Metro than my previous Windows 8 with ClassicShell (which still had 0.2 seconds of Metro at bootup).
Since installing StartIsBack thought Metro got nuked.. you mean it's still there somewhere? Oh well..
yes the links at ms site for iso are up and working i had gotton the one off mega but im going to use the ones off the iso download site instead
After failing to get the update via Windows store, I burned the ISO and created a dual boot system, no probs at all here, no crashes or such like. Start Screen tells me there are a few updates but like others have reported they fail to update. All the modifications to the Start Screen are mostly irrelevant to me as I very rarely/never use it anyway. Nice to be able to boot direct to desktop from a Windows setting rather than third party stuff. Still scratching my head over the return of a start button, especially after all the hoo hah that has preceded the 8.1 Preview release, was it really that hard to press the Win key anyway!? Or am I missing the obvious, all it does is open the Start screen! As others have mentioned you can right-click and get a Shut Down/Reboot but that's more effort than Alt-F4 anyway. No probs so far, still messing...
...A bugg or not? With Internet Explorer 11 I see something changed at this site, some new(i like them) colors...Tomorrow I'll install other browser to see if the image is the same.About W8.1 : Finally I have it installed from stratch and until now without buggs(maybe except this described above),but instalation is just from 2 hours ago.BTW: Knows somebody how do I setup Windows to directly boot to the desktop?
Right-Click Taskbar - Properties - Navigation Tab Or: Press Win-X - Control Panel - Appearance and Personalization - Taskbar and Navigation - Navigation Properties
It's running nice and smooth for me and fixed my problem I had, the past couple of Days of Windows 8 RTM freezing and my laptop automatically shutting down in sleep mode.
there was some problems for people that use remote desktop i have used it and unless your in full screen mode the windows key always activated the local windows and not remote it was also a very huge pain in the ass to try to hit the conner to get the start menu to pop up so for some people yes the start button is very very use full
So, i downloaded the ISO from the official MS site... created a USB installation using Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool... and rebooted... The install has gone very well, with no hickups at all. The first surprise came up after the installation. Windows 8.1 didn't recognize my Radeon HD 6450 out of the box. So i just downloaded Catalyst 13.15.1 Beta (specifically released for Windows 8.1 Preview)... Besides a few minor glitches.. Everything is working as expected, it even takes less disk space then Windows 8. I was expecting these glitches, this is just a Beta. I'll use my Windows 8 Pro key to activate once the RTM is out.
