Boot into Safe Mode using F8 key on bootup working well after running the command bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy from Administrator Command Prompt. Change PowerShell Administrator to Command Prompt Administrator by right clicking on the Task Bar>Properties>Navigation>uncheck box"Replace Command Prompt with PowerShell.
I like the way m$ is trolling with the Start Menu. First, its a shortcut on the taskbar that launch the stupid start menu and second, and this make me laugh even more the way that you can "resize" the tiles. Of course you can, to the size they want!. Large, medium, etc. For a second I though that you could resize to the size you want, with the mouse, but no!. Other than couple of details, its just another service pack with some new wallpapers, nothing more.
I used upgrade path, it was good, but several apps not working. I did a cold start, 70 seconds. I cleaned out junk and defragged, still 70 sec slow boot. Did clean install, cleaned and defrag, still slow boot. Went back to 8. My 7 year old quad core boots in 8 seconds in 8, plus I prefer start8 to the new windows button, so far 8.1 is not great.
I think windows 8.1 is a great motivation ,for me, to go back to Windows 7,though, my Windows 8 RTM is great as an OS,but still,I'd rather continue working on 7 to improve it and meet my needs.I expected much and I'm really frustrated. But let's see what's Blue RTM will be.
You can change the color and the background of start menu. the new search is very comfortable and nice. you log in directly to desktop and not to start menu. what else do you want ?
I dont know what you guys want...as a windows 7 fan and windows 8 hater I hated windows 8 really bad and I find Windows 8.1 a huge improvment over windows 8, its really nice and faster than 8 and 7 and I really like it as a desktop user I am looking forward to the RTM
