KUC needs an update to handle the Spring Update.

    Thanks for that! Uninstall worked.
But - meh! - my USB 3 ports are still unresponsive to certain devices (mouse, memory stick...)

Has anyone analyzed KB2949621 to see what it contains, and why it's not applicable to servers?

Is it normal that when you install Windows 8.1 it makes a 300mb Recovery Partition, or is this only for if you have a UEFI PC?

Normal behavior, it's slightly bigger than the Windows 7 one (100 MB), it's MBR and RE partition.

    Ok, thanks.

So I have two partitions a 100mb one and a 300mb one, also how do I use the Recovery Partition, do I need it?

What would happen if I formatted the 300mb one, and merge the 300mb partition to the C: partition?

Not Recovery in means OEM Recovery Partition. It's Windows RE (Repair Environment), that's also part of the Install Media. Could be used to Repair StartUp or Reset/Refresh system from advanced boot options.

If you fresh install windows 8.1, it is better to delete all partition and merge it to the partition C. The installation process will create new Recovery and System partition.
