Are you fxxking kidding me, M$?!! See attached pic. Microsoft just pushed out more than 1GB of update, to a brand new installation of Windows 8.1 with Update ISO + Office 2013 w/SP1 ISO, in less than a week of its release? WTF is going on, M$? Are we just some fxxking lab rats that have to test MS's s**tty beta products that are disguised as "release"? As if users' bandwidth and SSD drive does not cost money. Shame on M$ for it's software engineer's s**tty programming skills.
If you are using a big HDD as you OS drive, it's not a big problem. If you are using a 120GB SSD, you'll definitely see some wasted space by these updates. It took away 3.1GB of space.
The "brand new" release was done a few weeks ago, it has to go thru tests before the MS guys could make the deadline of "publicly announce the release in Build 2014", while in that few weeks, developments are still going on.
Even better, using 60GB of a 120 GB SSD as OS drive here . (36.9 GB Free space) Maybe one now can understand why i refuse to use Office .........
man, 60GB SSD.. seriously, if you don't use MS office, which alternative do you use? I tried Libreoffice, Kingsoft, none of them is completely compatible with MS Office, which all my colleagues are using..
Still, i've done my share of betas and I must say this is the most confusing update yet. Used to be once you past escrow and gold, major updates like that where not arround
And here is the build number after 3 update rounds and reboots. 9600.17041.amd64fre.winblue_gdr.140305-1710
The size of the Visio update is a mistake which MS is currently investigating. It's like they're pushing out the entire install of Visio. I don't even have Visio installed (you probably don't either) and it's being pushed out. There is supposed to be an update to Visio, but a minor one that's a normal size (like 20MB, which is the size of the one for 2010).
I think they probably accidently pushed the office updates to download the full multi-lingual msu file versions instead of just the single language versions. I expect the downloads will be fixed some time soon. HMM... actually nope... I downloaded the visio update and it definitely is 500mb. Inside the msp is also a 500mb cab. They done messed up. I don't know wtf they were thinking..
Still no En-GB ISO's posted? I have the same question. What is this? After fresh install an update worth 800 MB have been downloaded to update build number a bit. It installed in no time, that means update wasnt 800MBs big for My system. Installed as single hotfix file actualy. Im glad Im not the only one whit this "problem" because i started to blame ATI almost for theyr legacy video card drop on Windows 8 that makes install a display driver a pain. Only after a few drivers tested and cleaned whit utilities original legacy driver provided is installed, no WDM v1.1 no more.
after clean installing win 8.1 withupdate multiple editions i'm still getting kb 355 update in win update of abt 126 mb..should i install that update??
Installing ..355 resolves itselfe. I tested on mine pc and virtual pc. After that from 9600.17031.amd64fre.winblue_gdr.140221-1952 build is chainged to 9600.17041.amd64fre.winblue_gdr.140305-1710 and all looks fine. Updates instaled from hube update was KB2933809, KB2939087 and KB2957390. However on virtual pc ..355 isnt 800MB huge but only 126~ as some of You are mentioning.
