To clarify..I assume that between 2 and 3 I install the appropriate LIP? And why the distinction between 3 and 4? I mean...why 4 plus 2 updates..and not all 6 in a row? (or is it just to separate it into what needs to be "readded" after lang pack (nr 3) ..and what wasn't included (4) in the iso to begin with? And the third question...how come you sugggest a different order than MS? "These KB's must be installed in the following order: KB2919355, KB2932046, KB2959977, KB2937592, KB2938439, and KB2934018." (I edited out the prereq) Weirdly enough they suggest the KB2959977 as nr 3....when it was released AFTER all the others. I'm just curious...maybe it doesn't matter? Well, thanks for bearing with me for all these annoying questions. (I spent SO MUCH time making new images and installing and testing.. )
No, You do not need the LIP file(s) it's useless and not recognizable for WU because updates in 3) are already present in Windows 8.1 with Update ISO, you only need to re-add them to furfill the new lang pack adding KB2959977 and KB2934018 will trigger the pending status in the image, so it's recommended to be added last that doesn't matter in this case (ready update iso), updates in 3) can be added with any order the order MS sugggest is for instaling all the updates fresh from zero KB2959977 has nothing common with KB2937592, KB2938439, so they can be installed before each other with no problem KB2934018 has some shared components (old version) with KB2959977, that's why MS sugggest to install the newer before the old no problem
Aha, ok, thanks for all the info. Last week I did it ISO:s by adding Lang pack, then all baseline updates (cause I didn't know which were included then). Otehrwise it was close to same procedure you are telling me. The problem I got was that if I (during setup) chose an added language I got stuck at first boot with a black screen with only a mousepointer. It only happened if I chose a language not native to the ISO. (If I chose english that I added to a Swedish ISO or vice versa) I figured it was because some lang updates were missing....and then these LIPs came..and it worked. I'll try it your way and see what happens. Maybe I borked it by adding too many already included updates. I'll report back here later. Edit: Black screen with mousepointer...I'll do the exact same thing again, but I'll also add LIPs. See if it helps. Edit 2: Added LIP right after RTM Lang pack, and no black screen at first boot. The black screen with nouse pointer occurs at first bootup after copying image, and it's just when it is about to say "getting devices ready" or whaveter. So clearly those LIP:s are needed. At least for additional languages on a clean install.
Well, for what's worth, i think it's easier if we let WU take care of KB2919355 (the package not the whole update1) i mean, we re-integrate KB2932046, KB2937592, KB2938439 only (since they are small size) after all, WU is founded for that reason
Well, I'll revise my method slightly then and remove KB2919355. (and adding the LIP..cause second language simply isn't working..not on my extra comp at least, and not at work when I tried an earlier similar version) But I'm surprised noone has tried adding languages, then installing with that language. (Black screen with mouse pointer only) (It didn't occur with 8.0....don't remember if I tried 8.1 without update) It's like when it's supposed to do the OOBE guide it can't find the localized files maybe? But others have had the same problem...but when they upgraded to 8.1.
Ok, that's weird...because it's like that consistently for me..I can reproduce it. Made those 2 yesterday....only difference is in 1 I used LIP and in other not. And the one without LIP had that problem. And before I got the LIP:s I tried 3 different ways (2 manually DISM commands with technet guide and anotehr guide, and 1 automated with Wintoolkit). All 3 faced the same problem. Only tried most of them on 1 machine though. But 1 of them was tested on a modern machine with same results. I haven't tried with english ISO and adding swedish though...or any other language...but it works with LIP, so not gonna bother. I did not occur with 8.0 though...and not with win7 either. And don't remember if I tried win 8.1 without update.
Just to be sure, i made a test tonight Added Lang pack, re-added (KB2919355, KB2932046, KB2937592, KB2938439), choose that lang for install.. all goes well no problem at setup and WU is happy and didn't show KB2919355 pack (well that of course after installing KB2959977 and KB2934018 manually) did you do all your tests on real machine or VM? and did you integrate KB2934018 offline?
It installed fine...but after restart when it is supposed to configure devices and do the "Welcome to Windows" screen then it starts flickering during Windows load..and then black with mouse pointer. It was on a real machine. I added KB2959977 and KB2934018 into the image. and not afterwards.
So, run a test without integrating KB2934018, see if it works Edit: to be extra sure, i tried to replicate your test, i added english us lang pack to arabic iso, then choose english to install and yes, the setup seemed to took a little longer than usual at "Getting Ready" screen, then the black screen with only a mouse pointer came up but, after no more than 20~25 seconds, the setup rebooted and resumed as usual to the finnish did you try to wait a little bit to see if setup continues or not? maybe it's something related to en-us lang pack only? since it's the base "fallback" lang for all languages, maybe the delay was due files confliction with the already present en-us resources i took a look at the setup logs (C:\Windows\Panther), but there wasn't any error logged/registered
I did give it some time. Many of the times I waited 10-30 minutes.. If I get time I may try without 4018....but since it works with LIP added there's really no point. I mean...if we were to have these releases for a long time..then yes, maybe...but maybe there will be an 8.1 update 2 or even 8.2 this fall with new refresh ISO:s. Then we'll jsut start with those as base ISO:s anyway....so no point in spending way too much time on this.
Hi Guy's. I'm going to install windows 8.1 with update today. Can someone be so kind as to tell me what other updates need to be added once installed. The KB updates.......hope someone get's what I mean. Cheers
I ran ClearCompressionFlag.exe, and then I was able to install kb2919355. Before this, i could not install it, no matter what fix or work around I tried. Thank you!
