With the 8.1 Spring, the MUI applications can be used in "windowed" mode?

    Thanks

It's not actually "windowed" mode...but you will get a titlebar with close & minimize buttons :D

Windowed metro apps most probably will appear in Windows 9 (it's a speculation though)

Indeed... Sometimes people get caught up in the trivial things and forget we're all on the same team here :hug2:
People that have slightly different opinions are never a real problem.
It's the people who intentionally mislead like that Jen girl or that Cleric guy that are real problems.

It's weird. because this hotfix belong to windows 8.1 and not to windows 8.1 update 1.

"Update 1" is still Windows 8.1 - By my reading of the KB article, the hotfix in question doesn't care whether "Update 1" is installed or not.

As Arseny92 explained in the hotfix thread, the update requires KB2919355 to be installed.

So it has a prerequisite. Still, it's the same Windows 8.1, not a new operating system.

Of course it's still Windows 8.1, I was just noting that the update does care if Update 1 is installed or not as KB2919355 is the main Update 1 update.

It's half a new OS as you can look at it as 8.1 SP1. It's not because the version number didn't increase to 9601 and MS refuses to call it SP1 that the ammount of fixes/improvements isn't the same or even more than with a real SP. The only reason MS pretends it's not an SP (and thus also didn't increase the buildnumber) is to ensure compatibility and not scare off developers. This in turn ensures that there is no reason not to install the update, which also means that they can be lazy by not updating 2 branches (or whatever you call it). They can set update 1 as requirement for future updates so they don't have to build the same security patches for both RTM and SP1 until RTM is EOL.

So apart from what MS says and the buildnumber staying the same there's not even the smallest reason to not think of this as an SP.

The download request page says that you could wait for this hotfix to be included in windows update.

And in the "related files"(not additional files), they were files dated Aug 2012, in the case of regular updates, the related files should be 16xxx, or for Update1, 17xxx.

This particular hotfix will change, either the contents or replaced by another KB. (don't want to get backfires, but this hotfix is just targeted to OEM's only).

Windows 8.1 Update 1 Desktop Icon problem

    Hi all

After installing update 1 my desktop icons are not clickable at random times. Its almost as if the keyboard is not working. I have to click the start screen and go back and forth a couple of time before it becomes responsive again. :tooth:

    Any ideas?

    Thanks guys.

That's a Windows explorer bug , it happens in my PC also....the Windows explorer in 8.1 has bugs,it randomly crashes & now with 8.1 update 1 an additional freezing bug has been added :D

These sort of things never happened on Windows 7 or Windows 8 & Microsoft also removed the ability to edit metadata in the Windows 8.1 explorer.....it's really a step backwards & managing a huge mp3 collection becomes really tough.

You should check out the Windows phone app for desktop & the Windows phone metro app.....the desktop app is so much crippled in functionality that it is unusable...whereas the metro app has more features & is somewhat usable...
It's like they are crippling the desktop apps on purpose...just to make people start using the metro apps

Even with Windows 8.1 Update 1, the ability to edit tag and metadata is still broken. I think it won't be fixed until Windows 10.
