Internet Explorer, the perfect Firefox or Chrome download tool. It keeps it basic so you can download them quicker :)

On my system, windows media player does not play sound from movies. I've installed K-lite codecs - media player classic does everything well, but wmp is just dumb. can play music though :)

Also I've noticed, that flash in Google Chrome can now produce sound - that's good. Because in WDP it could not.

anyone having problems with watching live TV via Media Center in Windows 8 CP?

My case: Media center opens fine, but every time I try to click "Live TV Setup" (for the first time), it immediately generates a crash report with a error message titled "Windows media center receiver service" to send info Microsoft and inside Media Center window it says, Tuner not found, even though it's available in safely remove hardware. Tuner is AverTV Hybrid Volar Max and Win8 is 64bit.

It's USB tuner and the drivers were installed automatically just like Windows 7 and I just downloded the drivers from AverTV site and reinstalled but Media Center is still crashes like before :(

Wow....not exactly impressed. Everything seems harder to do....metro is horrifically ugly and mindbogglingly tedious. And how the hell do you close one of their stupid apps...???

That said, I have installed firefox, vlc & mpc-hc and they all seem to work. Somebody please tell me that there's a plan to fix this mess. Even tho I knew what was coming, this just seems almost heartbreakingly sad. Can this really be the end of the line for windows...???

So far I have installed drivers from AverTV site(obviously they were for Windows 7) with and without Windows 7 compatibility mode to no avail and the USB TV Tuner is showing just fine inside device manager too :(

EDIT: when it crashes, Media Center generates report for AppCrash_ehRecvr.exe something to do with "Receiver Service"

    Disabling Metro

I do not know if this works for W8CP (because I'm not messing with it yet), but found it in a couple of different places discussing the W8DB.

Press Windows key + r and type regedit; press Enter; navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer and set the RPEnabled key from 1 to 0.

Reboot; all Metro stuff will be turned off after the reboot.

Now you have the Win 7 interface with advanced and improved functionality of Win 8. Also, read that Metro is still accessible after this regedit via the Windows key.

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere.

I've also tried to play videos with media center - still no sound, just like in media player. seems some codec integration subsystem just does not work.

Also, guys, what do you think of switching input languages (keyboard layout)? This became a system wide switch from since WDP.
    that's very annoying!

I've figured how to disable this:
Under Control Panel - Clock, language and region - language - advanced settings
there is a checkbox "let me set a different input method for each app window" - and that's it!

Well, having an issue in a specific scenario.
i have on my desktop PC 2 HDD's, to disable the new OS from recognizing WIN7 installed on the other HDD and therefor present me a dual boot screen im disconnecting the HDD with WIN7 and leave only the HDD on which im going to install WIN8.

installation went fine with no issues, i connected back the HDD with WIN7 (on which i have also data i need) and from there on the WIN8 OS would not boot anymore, i get WIN8 error "inaccessible boot device" error and an option to repair windows which dosen't help.

of course my Bios is set to boot from WIN8 HDD, i tried several things with no luck, i will later try to disconnect the WIN7 HDD and see if there is a difference.

it seems like WIN8 writes the location of the OS HDD, once it is changed you can not boot. by the way, im doing this procedure all the time with WIN7 with no issues.
