"If you upgrade your system from Windows 8 Developer Preview to Windows 8 Consumer Preview, you'll be able to keep your user accounts and files but you won't be able to keep installed programs and Windows settings" From here: askvg.com/windows-8-consumer-preview-public-beta-frequently-asked-questions-faq/ I didn't verify that; did a clean install, myself.

Interesting theoretically, but in reality it's quite pathetic: the method without 3rd party software is well-know and hardly replaces the start menu, while the method using 3rd party software requires me to install some obscure 3rd party tool (that might not even work at all in RTM), and then fight with the position of the orb coz it overlaps the other icons... this is really the frankenstein way. Besides, it still doesn't let me get rid of the frigging Metro desaster! I don't want to see it even for a friction of a second! I just want my good old Desktop back, without having to look at this abomination at all!
If an application requires it (as was the case with WDP), the OS itself will tell you and even download the missing runtime to fix it - slickest feature I've seen in Windows. First time I ran into this with the DP was with a game - NFS Hot Pursuit 2010 requires .NET Framework 3.5.1.
right-click in the lower left corner (mini start screen icon), launch task manager. In task manager, file/run new task. Make sure to check mark the "created this task with administrative privileges". now try. worked for me. - edit: Forgot to mention that and admin rights level command prompt option is available in the right-click context menu.
You can still use Firefox - it just can't be your default. I had IE, FF, and Chrome all installed in the DP, with IE as default.
Windows Defender is a rebadged version of the current beta of MSE - it even used the same file definitions. That is why you have to uninstall MSE before upgrading to the CP from any Windows running MSE.
Is there any way to rename my user that show on Metro interface top right? Actually its my email at gmail.com associated with live.
