It can happen when desktops becomes obsolete like floppy drives and the industries start using tablets for CAD,CAM,Multimedia..............
Can anybody confirm: 1. Disable UAC in Control Panel 2. Click [win], type cmd 3. Right-click cmd.exe 4. Crash Also, on disabled UAC not all applications are running as admin. For example, bat files runs as user and I have to right-click->run as admin. It's quite weird.
mikedl, I'm frankly amazed at how patronizing your posts are. I respect your choice of win8 but it seems you are unable to respect other people's choices. What makes you most capable of deciding other people's "future"? Anybody who prefers the classic windows UI is being treated as a deviant moron who has to be "dragged kicking and screaming" into (mikedl's version of) the "future" because they are too stupid to decide whats best for them. Nobody has anything against your expressing admiration for win8 but surely you can do it without getting personal with people who disagree with you on that count?
I couldn't agree more. Besides, the poll on MDL clearly shows that it's the MAJORITY that clearly prefers the old start menu and doesn't like the new Metro interface. But if MS really want to repeat their mistake with Vista by not offering users the choice between Metro and not Metro, thus burying their otherwise quite nice and promissing new OS right from the start, they can be my guest - I don't have to change my system every 2-3 years, I can do it every 4-6 years without any problem whatsoever
Absolutely right Venu, laptops and PC's have developed over the years and the OS layout layout suits their use, no need to go metro on those just because it's suited to phones and tablets. MS need to offer both to maximise sales. As for the adapt or perish scenario, land animals evolved from the sea but you would'nt trawl all the fish out dump them on the shore and tell them to evolve. In these days of multiple choices, give me the choice so I can make up my own mind what suits me.
I don't think it will, for a couple reasons. First, win8 will not make as much of a splash in the tablet market as ms hopes it will. Not by a long shot. Secondly, desktop users will, by and large, avoid this turd like the plague. Therefore, ms will, once again be forced to realize that their arrogant ways have failed them again and be forced to rethink their path. Win9, imho, will likely be offered in two distinct versions, tablet and desktop. If anyone at ms had access to a brain they would have implemented that in win8, but, alas, pride cometh before the fall...
I installed WCP on a VHD. To be honest, metro is not as bad as it is made out to be. However, closing some apps or shutting down takes longer. Perhaps, MS will listen to user feedback and improve on some areas in RC and RTM. For me, WCP for me does not require Nvidia/Intel GPU for native display (for me 1920x1080). In that respect, it is perjaps better than win 7 which required nvidia drivers to display native res. for Nvidia GTX560. Even enabling lan/wifi on laptop is native and does not require drivers to run. I do not think USB 3.0 is natively supported.
And all it would take is a single button to return to classic desktop, IE no metro with classic start button to make that happen. WCP isn't the final product and if Msoft see's enough complaints they could easily make that change. If Msoft doesn't do it then a third party software program will have it done in the blink of an eye. The fact that you can automatically sync all of your Op systems and Metro UI on every device, phone, tablet,PC is something that not even Apple can match.
Back to the future for me then ... we were using these back in about 1985! 'Tablet Symbol Recognition' and all that jazz .. (not exactly the same I know)
designing aeroplanes(catia) on tablets I will used final win8 and third party software. MS will try hard to keep metro and earn extra money through apps. But I believe apps will not be accepted by productive enviroments.Industries recruit people to work for them and not for playing with apps. MS should be ready to hear a lot of complaints about metro from industries. Also apps are allowed access through the firewall which adds risk.
I can't stand all this security!!! When I try to copy a network file directly to a system folder, the hosts file for instance, I get a message that the network connection has been lost or doesn't exist. I can copy to the desktop and then to the target folder and that works. All the system folders I have tried to modify files in or copy files to have geven me the big "Access Denied"!! Then I have to go in and add my User ID to the security settings and give myself permission. When I try to run THE LATEST versions of CPUID or AIDA64 they crash Windows CP, and not in a nice way. The screen freezes, the keyboard becomes non-responsive, and down she goes. It's start button time. As a Systems Administrator I am used to fighting security but as we used to say in the Air Force "The safest missle is one that cannot be fired by anybody, even in war time". However I think it's a mistake to extend this philosophy to User operating systems. Security sure, but I don't want to spend half my time adding security groups to files and folders or taking ownership of same just to make a one minute change. I think tis little tile laden beauty has the potential to become a real maintenance nightmare if they don't give us a way to make the day to day changes more easily.
Thanks for that information. It gives me a little insight that I didn't have before. I have taken some image copies along the way. I will go back to an early version and see if that does the same thing. The fact that CPUZ (I said CPUID but I meant CPUZ) also crashes it made me think it was some kind of security that was attempting to prevent reading hardware ID's and other low level stuff. This is a new P8Z68 motherboard and Sandy Bridge processor, there shouldn't be any hardware reason for this. Microsoft Office and Lightroom run ok. Thanks again for the information.
Loss of a cultural identity and Native American spirituality characterizes and separates the two generations of win. With each passing of a windows generation, vital knowledge of the windows culture seems to be lost. Windows 8 sucks for desktops and high-power-pc.
