I have used MS software for work and personal since win 98. I do find it bizarre not having a start point like previous versions. In fact found so difficult to use i had build myself a little gismo to bring up the console window as i couldn't find it. (If it helps you find way around use it. Require Net Framework 4 to work.) I have been adding to it since, until i get my head round this op system. Even apple macs i have used have a quicker start point for everything. However it is only a consumer preview which i am sure MS is monitering feedback for improvements. Have installed 32 bit versions on 2 systems; - 2009 dual core as main op system - virtual drive on xpsp3 running vm player 4.02 Since the nvidia updates have nothing really to whinge about with it so far. It is quite fast starting and loading and is much less hungary on battery power in laptops. But i dont see this catching on with business in its present format;dont think my bosses would like us playing around with applications in metro at work. Saying all that i have yet to experience win 8 in say a tablet or touch screen environment.
I dual boot W8CP with Ubuntu 11.10 x64 in my spare desktop PC. Every second or third sign into Ubuntu, Ubuntu has to go through CHDSK as well. It is not XP only. I have no such problem in dual boot W7x64 with Ubuntu 11.10x64 in the same HDD and same computer.
So I just installed the CP and if I'm not mistaken, didn't the DP have a Lock feature in the "Shutdown, Restart" menu? Now I have to put it to Sleep so it'll lock but my laptop always crashes after "Sleep" (unrelated problem). Is there a Lock feature somewhere or did they take it out and leave Sleep?
i just got 2 updates for x86 at 1.5MB KB2685195 / KB2687198 oh ..... and new Vodafone metro tile looks s**t when made smaller
After installing the two aforementioned updates, the computer wouldn't restart, it just kept displaying "Restarting". After forcing a hard reset everything went back to normal, however, and I don't notice any slowdowns when going to desktop or otherwise.
No slow downs for me at all with these two new updates although the build number and other info reappeared lower right. I just ran the Windows 8 patch again to fix that.
does anyone know how to disable UAC completely? it's disabled but i guess it still in background or something, always pops me up a confirmation message
Can anyone explain to me how to install unsigned driver in Windows 8 ? (Disable Driver Signature Enforcement Does not work )
