An option to completely disable metro and revert to a plain Windows 7 desktop. I want an option to have an interface not meant for touch interactivity and just for a simply mouse and keyboard. 1 Graphic User Interface. Decide on going Metro or go with the desktop. Don't give us a bastardized in between (and you thought I wouldn't take the joke to the next level you thought wrong) where Windows 7 got in bed with Windows 8.1 and decided to give birth to their illegitimate son called Windows 10.
Am afraid you can forget it. Is not matter of UI, MS want's just to ape Google and Apple, and want to use metro to force its userbase to pay for every app (better if paid monthly, trough a subscription) and make money selling "the blades" instead of the razors, as was used to. Hence the metro environment (which is not just the UI), hence the free win 10 upgrade.
I agree with your choice and there has to be better functioning operating system from Microsoft. What about those who are using touch-based systems? Windows can't not leave them out of the program because they are gradually increasing in numbers as tablets and hybrids are on the upward movement.
I hope that they finish well Windows 10, not the same mistakes like vista or 8/8.1 and only if they finish windows 10, then start to develop redstone
Noted this lab in MS-Vnext: It says 'th2' Does that me mean that Redstone is known as Threshold 2?... Confusing...
Earlier reports suggested that Redstone is compiled under fbl_ur1 name, so th2 is probably something else.
Windows 10 RTM: 2015 Summer (July-August) Windows "Threshold R2": "Windows 10 Autumn Update" (2015 October) Windows "Redstone": "Windows 10.1" (2016 June-October)
New Build: 10.0.10115.0.fbl_ur1.150505-1400 Update: New "Windows 10 Autumn Update" Build: 10.0.10117.0.th2.150507-1224
It looks like with Redstone's release Microsoft will continue it's focus on Settings app in order to completely remove Classic Control Panel. This speculations was confirmed today by Bhavya Kashyap who is Program Manager at Microsoft. See picture below.
attachment still seam not to work though It is quite obvious that the old control panel will disappear, no doubt. I belived that it will be gone when RTM is out but it is most likely that part of it will remain until totally merged into new system settings
There is just way to many settings to cram into the settings app i don't see the CP being removed anytime soon, and FBL got updated last night to 10155, hope we get a preview update soon fml 10155.0.150622-1735.fbl_impressive_CLIENTPRO_RET_x64fre_en-us.esd 23/06/2015 08:15:33 2,695.38 MB GIMME MY SHINY!!!!!!
If you choose to stay on the insider programme you will start to see these builds sometime after Windows 10 goes RTM, but presumably well before Redstone release. Not sure of the timeframe though!
Does this imply that the insider program will continue indefinitely or will there be a point where new users cannot join the program??
