@AlexCa Suggestion: Could you add SHA-256 for both installer and zipped files at your website? Just for security. Thanks in advance.
Hi all, I've released version 2.0.0.3 of WRT. This version contains improvements to the "AVLeftovers" functionality that I've added in the last version: - Made several changes in order to improve detections and reduce false positives. - Removed detections regarding some older discontinued AV's, and added several other detections (so there's no longer a total correspondence with the "AV Uninstall Tools Pack"). - Increased the size of the form so that it's easier to look at the paths when the nodes are expanded. While this functionality is not perfect - false positives can occur and it will not tell us the exact version of the AV detected - , I think that it will make the task much easier. Admittedly it relies in part in the knowledge and the experience of the user to cover the two weak-spots mentioned above. If you guys feel like, give it a go and tell me what you think. The tool doesn't change or remove anything (and neither is it supposed to do so), but it only reports (if you right-click a node you'll only have the options to copy the path or to open it - in order to allow to examine the contents). Thank you.
I've just released another update (version 2.0.0.4). Sorry for the successive update! It's a fix to the "AVLeftovers" search, that under some circumstances would display an unnecessary error message that required the user to click ok for the search to continue.
@AlexCa In order to free space, specially when working from a USB drive, is there a way to delete the zipped file that contains the portable program, other than doing it manually? An option for auto-delete after extraction would be really appreciated.
If that's the case I think you don't need to carry the .zip file (that's 3,90 MB file, for those who might be wondering). Extract the .zip file in the HDD like this: right-click > Extract to "Windows_Repair _Toolbox". Prepare everything. Copy the folder to the pen drive. Edit: I think I'm safe to assume that you're not talking about the 3,90 MB file when you say that deleting it will save "a lot of precious space and disk writes that wear the UFD". So what I'm guessing is that you are doing the following: you are preparing the WRT in the HDD, zipping that resulting folder, and copying it to the pen drive. Instead of zipping the resulting folder, just copy it to the pen drive right after you prepare it. Hope this helps.
I'm talking about this, since the beginning: and this: And so on. There is one zipped file for every program I download which needs to be deleted, at least for me. They're using precious disk space.
You can safely remove those, by the way, thanks for reminding me, I have just saved about 200 MB removing them.
Make it optional, disabled by default. This how I manage zipped (and others) files in multiple sub-folders, always. See? People's prone to forget those accumulating files.
@Mr.X , I've been testing, and came to the conclusion that it's not worth to specifically target the .zip files. After downloading all the the tools, the total size of the WRT folder is around 3,25 GB. From that total, all the .zip files together are using 395MB. And one of those .zip files alone have 228MB - the "AV_Uninstall_Tools_Pack" from the "Uninstallers" section. This means that, excluding that particularly big .zip file, all the remaining .zip files together are using only 167MB. So I'll do another thing instead: - Delete the "AV_Uninstall_Tools_Pack.zip" file immediately after its extraction (228MB). - Delete the Emsisoft Emergency Kit package immediately after the first use (321MB) - it isn't required afterwards. - Delete the Vipre Rescue Scanner package immediately after the first use (306MB) - it isn't required afterwards. This will save a total of 855MB, that is a much more significant value, and will only add the delay to 3 applications - a decent trade-off. As for the remaining 167MB in small .zip files that are scattered for 40 applications, I'll just ignore them, because i don't think that 167MB are worth a dedicated option in the settings and a added delay to 40 programs. What do you think? I'm planning to add the changes for the next version of WRT. Thanks a lot for your suggestion in the first place!
Amusingly, I don't use AV stuff in your tool. But it's okay, don't bother for the rest scattered zip files, I can delete them manually. Anyway you're doing a great job.
