Is this slow to install for anybody else?
Installed it on an old netbook, so it would be slow of course, but it was crazy. Works flawless though. I have put 2012 and 2016 on those old netbooks before, and they install fast.

 

For me with 3GB memory on a VM it took about 6 minutes to complete Server 2019 install. Pretty fast.

Which version of server 2019 would I install to use as just a desktop for gaming?

 

standard desktop experience but i think gaming is faster on 10

 

Iirc it's quite easy to use Server as Desktop system, still it has some limitations that might prevent some games to start .

From observations LTSB/C is a pretty good gaming edition. Only in case UWP games are used, LTSC is needed, since a lot of them require 1703 as minimum hence LTSB 2016 (1607) won't work.

 

Honestly, I'd probably go with ltsc but I like to tinker so I was contemplating playing around with server just to try it out. I currently run enterprise and like it but I do like to experiment.

 

Yes it's very easy and 2019 seems like it might be my favourite desktop so far. Any game seems to work. But as you know 10 is better for games

 

do it, its awesome. I myself play games on server.

main things you need to configure is enable sound and wifi if you use it. set performance for programs not background.

You may also need to install graphic tools (DirectX graphic tools support) optional component.

I don't use it for games but mostly for audio softwares and it works perfectly. Way more responsive than LTSC on my machine (and booting faster)
