    where is this now?

    has the structure changed?

    For example for Ubuntu from the Store:
    %LocalAppData%\Packages\CanonicalGroupLimited.UbuntuonWindows_79rhkp1fndgsc\LocalState\rootfs
    home folder is now inside rootfs.

    Moving the rootfs to a non system partition doesn't work yet.

    My bad... I didn't have time to read those articles and saw "installing the appx" in the post you quoted :)

    The API is now included with the latest Window SDK:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Include\10.0.16299.0\um\wslapi.h"

    can i install 16.04 ubuntu to lets say c:\ubuntu now? as opposed to before?

    As someone who does some security testing, I was quite excited at the possibility of the stability of windows with the flexibility and tool support of linux... that is, until I discovered that WSL had limited hardware access and was therefore incapable of monitor mode. This makes a lot of stuff useless, and I am looking for a way to enable this if at all possible.
