I installed windows 8 in my laptop (Dell INSPIRON 1464, 64 Bit).
The disk usage column in the task manager is going to 100% even though the system is kept still i.e. idle
    Is that a problem !!
Why is that so ... please help me in fixing this !!
    thanks in advance

I have heard of people who did upgrade path installs reporting this issue.
You could try to run windows update and see if an update fixes it.

    Update to 8.1.

In Windows 8 Microsoft has combined all the maintenance tasks in one. Defragmentation, indexing, virus scan are done practically in the same time, and usually maintenance works in idle.
I've found the same issue on multiple computers running 8. After updateing to 8.1 the issue has dissapear.
