In Beta 2 of DISMTools 0.7, you will now see a revamped custom component screen when creating your answer files: This is in order to accommodate the latest changes in Schneegans' generator and UnattendGen. You will see these in the target answer file: However, one advantage is that, whilst Schneegans' generator only lets you add up to 3 components, with DISMTools you can add as many as you want. Also, this is expected to improve in the future, with measures to prevent shooting yourself in the foot, as some components are reserved for proper OS installation. Check this new screen out in the latest installers!
Many improvements were made to DISMTools 0.7 for Beta 2: The popup mounted image picker has been fully revamped. Even though you'll just see the border, the picker has changed under the hood, returning a mounted image object instead of strings: DISMTools then uses this mounted image object for specific needs based on the action, therefore making it simpler. The WDS Helper client will now apply drivers to the target installation if it finds some in the image to which the device booted. The Driver Installation Module (DIM), if found to be incompatible, is expected to be bundled with the DISMTools PE, rather than stored in the ISO file HotInstall has seen some improvements, with the addition of a removal script that is automatically generated. This one reconfigures the system's BCD to reinstate the full OS as the default entry and deletes any files created during preparation. You are able to confirm if you want to revert all changes before doing this: All of these changes are now available in the latest installers. Also, Beta 2 will receive updated documentation, mainly to reflect the network-based installation efforts.
DISMTools 0.7 Preview 4 (Beta 2) is now available for download and installation. The update system will pick it for you and install it automatically. It is also available on WinGet. Huge thanks to all of you, because the program has reached 100000 overall downloads! For Preview 5, more improvements will be made to network-based installations, with the inclusion of a new control panel: This is not yet available in the latest installers, but will be very soon. Also, the June 2025 Update of DISMTools 0.6.2 will come alongside Preview 5.

Both are also available on WinGet Beta 3 of version 0.7 will see some improvements tailored for the enterprise, with features to join target devices to an Active Directory domain with unattended answer files: You can access this wizard in the Basic System Configuration page: As this is a make-or-break process, this wizard will also make you verify the settings: Other things introduced in Preview 5 of DT 0.7 are: Administration scripts for the DISMTools PE related to full disk copy and image capture You can now enter the command line when booting to the ISO or via WDS Experience the domain join settings in the latest installers
With Beta 3 of DISMTools 0.7, you can now remove drivers from active installations. This restriction was in place because DISM does not support removing drivers from such installations. However, pnputil does: This is now available in the latest installers.
Speaking of the tour, videos are now being made. The raw recording featuring the process is already done; it just needs a bit of editing. Here's some behind the scenes: Expect fewer changes in DT until the videos are done
The Tour is now complete, with the video forms of each of the 3 sections now completed: It's now available in the latest installers. Keep reporting feedback for any future improvements!
Soon, you will see some major changes in UnattendGen. Mainly, the fact that it is now cross-platform and works on Linux and macOS: To provide compatibility with ZSH interpreters, such as the one used by macOS by default, the command-line argument syntax has been changed from "/" to "--". DISMTools has been adapted to this new syntax and will still download Windows releases of UnattendGen: No GUIs for UnattendGen on Linux and macOS are planned to be made at the moment. Maybe you can. Anyway, experience this change in the latest installers that will arrive shortly.
Some updates for DISMTools 0.7 Preview 7: Anyway, the release binaries for Preview 7 (version 0.7.0.25072_250727-1511) are now on hold for availability on July 30. In the meantime, work on Preview 8 has started. Now, what about 0.6.2 Update 3? This release will continue to be developed until July 30, since its changes mainly focus on cherry-picking them from preview branches. Preview 8 of version 0.7 will continue to follow the usual release schedule, so it will be released in 2 weeks. 0.6.2 Update 3 will be the final release in the 0.6 Series. The next stable release will be 0.7. When both 0.7 Preview 7 and 0.6.2 Update 3 are released on July 30, the 2025 edition of the DISMTools Fortnight will begin, unfortunately without a video. However, it will begin with a feature that has seen incredible reception: the PE Helper, as there is way more to this story than what was published here. Speaking of which, in both releases, the DISMTools PE can now start faster.
