Could someone please help? Can I tattoo my ASUS M3N78-VM motherboard? If so how. I have tried using the cd but it doesn't seem to work. I've tried modding my BIOS but i was told that doesn't mod slp1 strings i need to activate WHS. Thank you
hi i have a hp dv7-4065dx and i cant open the bios optios whit the dmi programs. sorry for the english
Well, this utility helps to add HP SLP string in the bios of ur pc so that u can activate Windows XP, 2003 and WHS by OEM:SLP method... as u have a branded HP laptop, then u should already have HP string in it....
If you are talking the HPDMI tools, you have to have the correct tools for the model. I have seen the tool for this model on the forums here..this DMI disc is not what you are looking for I think. Exactly what are you trying to do with the DMI tools..??
Gents, After browsing through the forums for some time now, I'm still unsure about what the exact procedure(s) is/are to get a Windows Home Server activated. If I understand correctly, there are a couple of ways to get this done. 1. Tattoo your bios with a correct SLP value. 2. Use the OEMBIOS changer to copy files for the right vendor (Always HP?) or reinstall WHS with a created OEM dvd. 3. Tadaaa, you're done. or 1. Browse through the list of SLIC 2.1 mods and try to find your bios, then flash it. 2. Not sure about this, but probably you can then also use OEMBIOS changer to get the job done or reinstall WHS with a created OEM dvd.. 3. You're done. Now, the route I took has proven to be a rather confusing one. I've grabbed a modded bios from the All-Slics-2.1-(Modded-Bios-List)-Note-For-requests-use-Bios-Mod-Requests-section thread, flashed my bios succesfully, but the OEMBIOS changer trick did not work. Reinstall Windows Home Server with the OEM dvd I already burnt, would be quite a hassle that's why I thought I'd first fire off this reply. If this is in the wrong thread or subforum, please don't shoot me! Thanks, B.
OK thanks, must have missed that thread, but It seems I'm still f***ing up somewhere, Yesterday I used the DMI Boot CD to tattoo my bios with SLP1.0, when running OEMBIOS changer and then printing the SLP values I get: F:Gigabyte OEMBIOS.CAT CRC=6C0C2E95 F:Hewlett-Packard OEMBIOS.CAT CRC=00A1EECB F:Hewlett-Packard OEMBIOS.CAT CRC=3BA155E1 F:HP & Compaq OEMBIOS.CAT CRC=CD4E1902 I then used the HP_Compaq-CD4E1902 files to run OEMBIOS changer and copy those files over. Yet, I'm still getting an activation warning. Is there something wrong with the steps I follow?
Yeah it would be great if oembios.exe could also give crc; results for server but it doesn't only ones for XP
Any sounds good. The question is, can any string be inserted into any mainboard with any BIOS? I remember reading about address-problems with certain constellations, and now im not sure if my plan would work out... The plan is: • Finally setup that long-planned DualBoot for some older stuff • Use this quickie-method to put DELL string (Board = BIOSTAR /w Award Workstation BIOS 6.00PG - SLIC21 DELL) • Make OEM CD with DELL OEM info • Be a happy camper Anything speaking against this strategy? Anything i should pay special attention to?
No I know for a fact dell won't work the dmi tool inserts it into wrong memory address for dell strings. You will need bios mod for dell.
Unfortunate. Most unfortunate. But thats exactly why i sought for reassurance, thanks for responding and confirming. I take it HP would be ones best bet then if one wanted to try the DMI route? Is it known to have ever failed with any particular board/BIOS combination?
I can't remember it was either 911medic or freeestyler that posted, EMACHINES, Hewlett-Packard ( i,e, HP) , GIGABYTE, Toshiba, and LENOVO are common brands known to work.
OK...lets say i try one of these (LENOVO would be cool) and none works...can i clear the added strings again? Or is it sort of a 'once its there, its there' kind of thing? Im almost ashamed to ask such noob-like questions, its just that this is the first time i give this DMI thing some serious thought...
Yes you just add empty dmi string , always check first to see if string is present some manufacturers motherboards like say ASUS usually allready have slp1.0 string. I normally just go with HP when doing friends machines. my own machines i have bios mods with dell slic and slp only because i do have an original dell machine not that that really matters any more it came with vista and i modded bios to slic 2.1 for windows 7
OK...thats good to know. Thanks very much. As for your tip to check if a string is already present; my board is a run-off-the-mill retail BIOSTAR, (AMD690 based), and the BIOSes for it have neither SLP string nor SLIC table so everything has to be modded. I have added a SLIC21 table via ISA method one or two years ago and its all working so great and stable that i would just like to avoid a reflash unless its absolutely necessary. Whats ticking me off now big time is that originally i had made a mod with DELL SLIC21 table and DELL SLP string, but for some reason i cannot fathom now i decided to flash the SLP-less one. What a stupid move...
Phazor, bios modding methods and AndyP's bios modding tools have came a long way since then the tools are fairly safe to use now. I do understand there is always a risk when bios flashing even without modded bios.
Thanks guys. I will see what can be done via DMI first, and if all else fails...well...i will probably have to go for a reflash anyhow. Luckily this board is pretty safe to flash, if anything goes wrong i can do a bootblock recovery simply by inserting a USB stick with a good BIOS on it. The board finds and flashes it automatically. (Its one of the few boards i came across which also have a decent flash tool built-in directly in the BIOS. No need to boot into DOS or anything.)
