You think flashing from DOS is safer than flashing directly from the BIOS itself? Why so? Not that i have a problem with DOS...usually i just make me a BAT and let it do its thing without even seeing the commandline...
I think 911medic was talking about flashing from within windows not flashing directly from the BIOS itself.
Possible. Maybe we just misunderstood each other then. (To be clear: I was talking about a built-in flash tool. It can be selected in the BIOS setup.)
how to tatto phoenix bios 4.0 release 6.0 From what I have read it is not possible to use this DMI tool to tattoo a phoenix bios. is that correct? I want to tatoo the HP Bios to activate WHS. I have made a WHS PP3 install disk with the newest 2003 bios. so they should be installed. I didn't insert the key in the pid.inf file. I have a clean install and would like to fix the bios before time is expired on the activation. I have spent a lot of time reading on this forum and want to make sure that I don't have to request for a bios MOD from some of the legends on this forum. I also understand if you need to make an example out of a newb rlavachek
I have an HP Pavilion m8200n with a MCP61PM-HM rev:1.0B mobo in it. Short story: the mobo is dying. I have ventured to replace some capacitors but am discovering that a heat problem has also taken out other components. I think I can get it to start a few more time if necessary. Here is my real request: I want to replace the mobo and keep Vista (using the hp recovery disks I created) but I know that I am going to run into "tattoo" issues. I have read this entire thread and feel like there is something that I am missing in the process. (It seems to me that there are multiple ways to get this done on this thread and they are all running together in my head.) What steps should I take? (Step 1, Step 2, ect) Is there any information I should get from the system before replacing the mobo?
rdagi, Vista activates via SLIC 2.0 Windows 7 SLIC 2.1 and XP SLP 1.0 completely different method you cannot use the dmi tattoo cd for vista or windows 7 you will need to request a bios mod for your new motherboard. as for the recovey cd/dvd far better just making a HP vista or windows 7 OEM SLP one.
Next Step 1. From whom would I request a bios mod for the motherboard? Assuming that #1 is doable: 2. Can you link me or something for the process for a vista oem slp dvd?
1. you dont request it from a specific person but in the bios subforum..It clear says "Bios mods" so i dont know how you can miss it. 2. check vista forum.
I didn't get to this thread through the "front door" of the forum so I missed that. I will check out both of those and find out what I can. Thanks.
Why go through all this hassle when you can just disable the HP tattoo check? Even if you replace a motherboard with an exact one, even with a similar OEM signature in the BIOS, some OEM software won't work, like my HP PC-Doctor.
Hello all! I have an HP Media Center PC M370N. It has all the original hardware in it. Wayyyyy back in 2004 I burned the recovery CD's. My copy of roller coaster tycoon 2 blew up in the CD drive (seriously!) and so my parents took the computer to Best Buy. Apparently they wiped the hard drive and put a new CD drive afterwards, and the recovery CD's didn't work. I forget how we managed afterwards (HP sent us some recovery cd's, but both sets just said the whole "these cd's do NOT work on this hp pc model." I think we managed since then by installing a certain, "small" version of windows xp. Anyways, flash forward to 2011. The machine is still running, but I'm ready to see if I can use those recovery CD's. I read about "HP motherboard tattooing" and that piqued my interest. So, I checked the BIOS with Award DMI configuration Utility and sure enough, the info was blank in the "SYSTEM" tab. So, I naively tried manually putting in the manufacturer as Hewlett-Packard and HP Pavilion, the Product Name as HP Media Center PC m370n, Version NA35, Serial Number . . . . But the UUID stumped me. I have a feeling that's the bit of information, the UUID, that I would have to generate or something. However, here I am now with a few tools mentioned in this thread, and feel that this is the best lead to figure out how to get the recovery CD's to work. I've read online that there is a tattooing tool that HP has where the technician would put in information readily available on the Chassis stickers to tattoo the motherboard, then charge $250. Anyways, what would be the best way to proceed short of giving any more money to HP?
Make the CD yourself and chalk up the buying of the HP recovery and other HP products to inexperience. You can find the HP XP pro ISO(MCE if you look hard enough) in the stickies, make your own just as easy. No need to tattoo the board with the UUID. These seldom work when ordered from tech, it seems more marketing and propaganda than functional software..
Alright, thank you! I'll have a look at the stickied threads. I figured I'd just get stuck once I saw that the UUID was 00 02 00 03 00 04 ... with a whole bunch of pairs to input into. With no algorithm or process to figure out the numbers, I'd be doomed to a trillion years to figure out the right numbers and letters So it's off to begin the search for the iso's
I'm sorry for bringing up a dead post, but i'm at wit's end searching, reading, and trying to comprehend what needs to be done. I have a HP dv2736us laptop, and the HDD recently crashed on me. So I bought a new HDD thinking easy enough to reinstall, but lo and behold, I need this stupid Tattoo software crap. anyways, I've downloaded Snapcode's ISO since the HDD is SATA and burned the image to a disc and when i popped it in, it didn't work, it just stayed at the black screen with a blinking cursor. I'm tempted to just go and download a copy of Vista home Premium and install it since I can't find any WORKING DMI/Tattoo utilities D: Can anyone Help me? Again, I'm sorry for bringing up a dead post/topic and being a complete "noob" but I have virtually no programming knowledge =/ Edit: If it's of any help, the laptop has Phoenix BIOS f. 14.=/ Thanks for reading =/
So if I am understanding correctly Intel DMI SLP1 tat CANNOT be a Dell string (even though it was originally inferred that any should work). So if I want both 1.0 and 2.1 in an intel EFI I would have to Mix Dell and say HP (do they have to match?) Or replace the Dell SLIC I am using with an HP and use 911medics cool cert/sn installer and find one for xp-hp? I was leaning towards Dell since I have ALL the genuine Dell install media and have yet to find any genuine HP install media and have read it is non-existent for win7.
