You of course tried this boot CD & used dmi utility to write Hewlett-Packard string?
And then use HP W2K3 oembios files inside the WHS with SLP key

If you did that then you will have no problem

I did try this dmi method. When I booted from the CD, it did show that I had the 'Hewlett-Packard' string in the DMI area. However, in windows, the SLIC dump tool did not see that string (or may be it was looking at that string in a different place).

I did have the HP oembios files installed even before the flash.

This is a new thing for me so please bear with me. I reviewed a lot of posts here to understand what I need to do. I have a Asus M2A-VM motherboard (rev 1705 Award BIOS) with XPP with a VL installed on it.

I would like to convert the VL into OEM and it seems VLK to OEM and the Asus OEMBIOS set is what I need.

I am trying to understand the SLP string and if I need to do anything. From my reading DMI doesn't work with my BIOS for changes.

I booted up on the tatto CD and DMI /g told me that Type 2 Location 8 is "ASUStek Computer INC." Is that string sufficient or do I need to modify th BIOS? If I do any suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks

No, you should have a ASUSTek Pegasus string in the bios though. The dmi tools will offer you no help..You can add the ASUS_FLASH string with AndyP's mod tools...

Upload the bios, and I will check it for you...

I just ran the read and write utility and it reported this:

    [Base Board Information] (Type 2)
    <snip>

    Type0x02 (2)
    Length0x08 (8)
    Handle0x0002 (2)
    ManufacturerString1 - "ASUSTeK Computer INC."
    ProductString2 - "M2A-VM"
    VersionString3 - "1.XX "
    Serial NumberString4 - "123456789000"

Is that sufficient to convert the OEMBIOS to OEM?

Edit: I didn't do a refresh so I didn't notice your post with the fixed versions. Thanks for that. As a point of interest is the string I found in the existing BIOS sufficient?

    Thanks

No, the string is not sufficient to activate the XP OS.

I searched for the string and got a bunch of hits so I didn't find the list when I was scanning through them.

I did the vl2oem and then installed the free essentials A/V and let it check.

    Thanks for your help.

Why string is "Hewlett-Packard" and not "Hewlett" as it is here?

    HP & COMPAQ (OEMBIOS.CAT CRC32=CD4E1902)
    CODE
    F000,FFEA,6,Compaq
    F000,0000,FFF0,Hewlett
    E000,0000,FFF0,Hewlett
    F000,0000,FFF0,Compaq
    E000,0000,FFF0,Compaq

With HP & COMPAQ (OEMBIOS.CAT CRC32=CD4E1902) Windows will use only "Hewlett" and won't pay attention to "-Packard" in the string.
