I'm right there with you. I am in the exact same boat as you. I have a dv9535nr. The graphics chip went out in June of 09. After much arguing with HP, they finally repaired this for free(took the fight all the way to corporate). Got it back and everything worked fine(or so I thought). I did discover the num lock issue within the new 90 day warranty period. However, since I am not a computer guru, it never crossed my mind that this had anything to do with the repair of the video chip.(Which in actuality, they just replaced the whole motherboard.) I just stupidly assumed that it was just some setting I had to change or maybe a driver that I screwed up and no big deal I would straighten out soon. Well, here I am almost a year later and having spent countless hours on the internet trying to solve this problem, I am getting close to becoming a computer guru on this stupid issue. HP replaced my board but did not tattoo it properly when they performed the repair. THey will not fix it because it is out of the 90 warranty again even though they were the ones who "broke" it. Not me. So if you do find a tattoo utility with the password needed to open it and are familiar with the procedure, etc. I would appreciate it if someone responds to help me out also. I will continue to search for help online at any available resource. If I find what we both seem to need I will respond in kind. Good Luck.
I want to ask a question. Where is DMI in? In the ROM or nvram? I used your tool and changed DMI to HP. Today I did a bios mod with SLP to ASUS. However I found after reboot,DMI data still shows "Hewlett-Packard" in everest. How can I untattoo DMI? Thanks for your help.
Thank you for your help. So both ASUS and HP is exist in my SLP Can you tell more about DMI? I heard a jumper reset of BIOS will break DMI tattoo to BIOS's default value. So I think DMI is stored in battery and not in bios. Is that true?
Thank you. I tried enter dmi /sm "ASUS_FLASH" and I got this under windows. When I boot to DOS, "E:HP & Compaq OEMBIOS.CAT CRC=CD4E1902" disappeared. Then even when I tried The problem exists. Is that normal?Or something changed by dmi still exist in my bios?
But whitch utility from that disc (there are many) ? DMI /SM "STRING HERE" don't work or don't work correctly because slic toolkit v3.2 shows no OEM SLP string.
You shouldnt use the slic toolkit for this purpose..itdoesnt work consistently. Use the OEMBIOS.EXE program. SLIC toolkit for slics, OEMBIOS.EXE for OEMBIOS slp..make sense???
Sorry if it's out of topics but I think it's related. At first my planned is install oem xp that I've made with Suicide Sollution method n then add the slp 1.0 strings with dmi boot cd or oem bios changer. The mobo is Gigabyte GA 945P-DS3, it's been added with slics 2.1. But when the system had installed with all the drivers needed I'm curious to validate the windows xp it self, so I go to microsoft validation tools n said it's genuine. Well it's good news, now I'm allready to add the strings. Strange things happen, I check the acpi tables with rw everything seem the slp strings allready added. Could someone explain to me? Do the oem xp it automatically added slp 1.0 to the bios? Note : If the answer it's yes, well hoooraaaay
Well, the answer is "NO". But I think that your mobo has Gigabyte SLP string, as Gigabyte may include this some of their mobos. Also, if the bios is modded with SLIC 2.1, there are chances that the modder included this......
Strange, I mod the bios with award tools from andy p, add gigabyte slics 2.1 from suicide sollution collection but I didn't use bios mods in request thread (U can check there's no biosmods with slics 2.1 for gigabyte GA-945P-DS3), n what I remember before n after I mod with slics 2.1 there's no slp 1.0 strings in the acpi tables. I used universal backup toolkit to compare the old one to new one. Anyway that's ok, I don't have to use dmi to tattoo bios n saves some times. Thx!
I have use it first urie, that's why I know what files needed for the oem xp! Now when I run oembios.exe it shown only one option : gigabyte (it's different before I install my own oem xp it shown 3 option). I've ask gigabyte manufacturer in Indonesia n they said some gigabyte mobo with dual chip bios will add slp 1.0 automatically if I used xp oem version so I guess GA 945P-DS3 was part of 'em. The question is answered, heheheh
Hi Guys, I'm trying to change the serial number in the bios of an HP 6710b laptop. I boot from the disk, select option 4 to go in to dos, enter DMI. Then I enter 'dmi /ss 123456789' for example, but nothing happens. I have also run dmicfg.exe but every time I hit F10 to save anything I've changed it says it's not supported. Any ideas as to how I do this? Many thanks
