except those solutions also excel at pop up messages and banners to buy their paid software all the time, they won't leave you alone.
Most of those can be easily disabled (Panda, Bitdefender) or disregarded by simply activating game mode or just by getting rid of GUI.exe.
Which is the main reason I stopped using Avast. I get more than enough nagging from the missus. On Windows 10 I use Windows Defender along with Malwarebytes Free. No problems.
That is not entirely correct.Using multiple security software or even worst, not so good security software may be doing more harm than good but just using a simple & good av(I use avira free) has certainly never did any harm to my pc(& at the cost of just seeing one popup in 24 hours).
I personally use Eset, and have been for many years now. I'm used to it, and the way it works. If you pay attention, you can pick up a multi-user copy (3 or even 5 computers) for less than $20. I have observed that big file copies (backups, etc) can be slowed significantly by just about any AV, so I usually suspend the AV when doing a backup.
Only if those file extensions are included in av scan settings.By default, media files & similar are excluded.I don't see any performance issue during transfer of large media files(5gb+ mkv,mp4 etc).
In my many years of experience with it, Eset absolutely sucked balls when it came to hips/whitelisting/signatures updates in a timely manner. Steam games that Valve and other publishers update frequently experienced crashes / lower performance for weeks without a fix despite being reported. Avira has been my 1st choice for a long time as it has never caused such issues - it does not do lame game hooks that s**tty AVs like avast=avg do to spy on gamers. Bitdefender gets the 2nd place because it also hooks games, but at least it does so carefully, and it does not have a side-business of selling user's data. These days AV's share their signatures and there is not much difference when it comes to protection provided, so performance, support and nagging are weighting more.
i'm sorry that was your experience, maybe it was years ago, but I have been running eset smart security since 2005, I am an advanced user, gamer, technically oriented, and eset has been running like a dream. It has all configurations neccessary, updates the modules and application frequently, very high level of software quality assurance.
Thats the best option along with Defender Control for the times you know Defender is going to be a pain.
Then you DEFINITELY need a good AV (or a different hobby, just none of the dangerous electrical tools)
LOL I Remember Someone From Indonesian Test Windows Defender (Windows 10 I In VM)With Real Malware Sample Result Not Detected! Maybe Update Database Windows Defender Is Little Bit Slow Anyway I Recommended You Use Avast
