@gorski: I think it's in response to the entire globalist agenda. Most Americans are vehemently against socialism. They're watching their jobs being taken away and they're damn angry about it.

That's why Trump won, and that's why Brexit took place.

This is the kind of stuff floating around Youtube. People are seeing this and growing angry and scared.

@gorski: I realize that this conversation and others like it are an exercise in intellectual discussion, and the sharing of ideas and opinions. So I tend to be as emotionally disconnected as I can.

Sad to say, not everybody can do that. And that's not meant to cast aspersions on anyone.

These issues and others like them are highly charged with emotion. We are always walking on dangerous ground having these kinds of discussions.

At the end of the day, both you and I can walk away from these conversations and still have mutual respect for one another, as well as remain friends.

Not everybody can do that.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. It's an enormous struggle to gain citizenship legally in the USA. And I also see illegal immigrants as a smack in the face to you and others like you who have gone through the process and immigrated legitimately. My cousin went through that with his wife, who legally immigrated from Thailand. It took almost 2 years.

IMHO, this whole wall is a push to force the Mexicans to shore up their southern border and deal with the huge influx of illegals coming from South America. That's the main place where that drugs are coming from (Columbia, Peru). Mainly cocaine, because small amounts of pure cocaine can be cut and sold for a very large profit. 1 kg of cocaine,which costs about $1500 in Columbia can be cut and turned over for between $12,000 and $16,000 in the USA and the UK.

So yeah. It's big money. But remember: Mexico is only one route into the USA. As we catch on, more crafty methods are invented to sneak drugs in. That includes planes and boats.

So this wall is vitally necessary, despite what the globalists say. And Globalism is not compatible with the American way of life. Americans will -NOT- embrace Socialism, no matter how much it is candy-coated. It is not good for those who wish to dictate the course of their own lives.

For those who wish to bring up the Berlin wall, remember that it was designed to keep people in. Not out.

On a more somber note, Take a look at what's going on in the South China Sea. This both saddens and frightens me, as we are one step closer to nuclear or biological war. We (The USA) have used nuclear weapons before. And China may decide to use them if it looks like they're going to lose.

There will not be a wall. Nor will there be more border patrol agents. An immigrant is not illegal until he has due process in a court of law. The only way to stop illegal immigration is to make immigration legal, and easily accessible. These are facts. If there were a wall the only thing it would stop would be the view.

The amount of immigrants we allow legally is WAY below the amount of immigrants we need to survive as a great nation.

 

I might entertain that notion if you provided some numbers to support your claim.
Personally I see way too many Americans looking for jobs and not finding any... On a daily basis.

Lots of them do not have "papers" and can't by definition, through no fault of their own, be "legal", strictly speaking.

Exactly. The U.S. creates undocumented immigrants. If you want legal immigrants, then have legal immigration. I am not talking about what we have now. We have a stupid policy. We let in a few hundred or thousand, when we need millions. It is unethical. Also remember our constitution applies to all. No one is illegal until found illegal in a court of law.
