I wouldn't bet on unique keys for the Free Upgrade. Bought Retail and OEM version might indeed differ, but we talk the Free Upgrade.
LOL, only 8 days to go and end this debate. ....... But AFAIK, yes, free upgrade will have unique key, bundled to machine, sorry, @Slave, couldn't be on your side this time.
Guys have a question for you all: after upgrading from 8.1 to 10 and successfully activating windows...in case i want to do a clean install and keep the activation...should i log using a microsoft account? thanks in advance
After upgrading and using rweverything to check the original oem key written to the bios has not changed. I am guessing that is why MS says the key is consumed, not only does it take the HW info but the key too.
I actually made this discovery a few days ago lol.i just was so busy to actually mention it.yes I did all the slmgr to confirm it.it not only activated patched but if you clean install 10240 using a iso you made and wipe all entries and start completely fresh skip installation key prompt.it retains it.seems that windows 10 pushes a permanent key and product id into the devices bios so have fun -confirmed-
