I have the window 8.1 esd on a usb but when I get to the installation part it won't take my key. do I have to have window 7 install or window 8 before running this window 8.1 esd? and does the old OS have to be activated for it to work?
Can anyone please pm me a working key as I try my oem windows 8 key and it says I can't use it for this version of windows (Retail) Thanks in advance
In disappered thread we were trying to find out that why we are only getting en-gb as download not en-us... Today i tried to find out To test i installed fresh win 8 & all locals, time zone set to US... So when tried to download with my genuine key app start showing same error that "check internet connection", tried several times but no go beyond this point.. Reverted to snapshot & changed all locals & time zone to my zone & gain run the setup & entered the same key, guess what? app showed option to download. No internet connection error this time.. I think what language of iso or option to download or not, is based on your key you purchased from(country) & IP of connection... Thanks Edit:- tested gain with same setup but different key & it gain start downloading en-gb... I think IP address has more weightage....
It is hard luck if you are an English speaker who is in China, and you bought your machine\key there. I don't know how MS are deciding the language to download. It isn't necessarily what people want.
Asking this on behalf of a friend: I know that you can activate 8.1 with a Retail 8.0 key after installation, but does it also work with an OEM 8.0 key?
"LOL" is the best way to put it after relaunching the 8.1 setupbox. HAHAHAHAH! So awesome that we were still able to get iso's. Glad they're pre GA because using the leaked RTM on my Thinkpad 2 runs well, but the store update with GA crashes the graphics driver! This gives it a more cleaner feel It should work, at least that's what I've experienced. Is there a limit? No clue, I've only had to do it a couple times. The question is, can you clean install using a Windows 8 key, if retail or OEM works for install? I think you can try shoehorning in a ei.cfg into 8.1 to bypass it asking for a key during installation if I remember correctly, and you just need to put in the new key to activate once you have everything running. EDIT: Was able to get a Pro version of 8.1 using my 8.1 key, but seems like the ei.cfg doesn't work with making it go Core which I would like to have for other computers I manage that are OEM. Anyone know anything about which EditionID to use? 'core' just throws me an error. On another note, using ei.cfg lets you bypass having to enter a key on install.
Adding an ei.cfg will bypass a key check for boot installs, but it will block online installs if you don't have it set to a specific [EditionID]
It didn't work as the install just said the installation couldn't continue due to corrupted files. Do not try to use a windows 8.0 installation files with the 8.1 install.wim or install.esd
