Only if you have one of the four phones it will work on /kinda off topic question. Should Windows 10 Mobile be discussed here in the Windows 10 section on in the Mobile and Portable section
This tool is just a nice overlay to exactly the same what Lumia Software Recovery Tool, or Nokia Software Updater for Retail did, but with censoring even more stuff. Basically: get deviceInfo, get HwVariant, get VPL, flash FFU from Care servers. Seriously, that "insider program" is just insulting geeks and professionals off
Yeah, the rest of them will come eventually. After seeing that none of the three I have (1020, 920, 520) are eligible yet, I decided to splurge fifty bucks and get a Lumia 635 (AT&T GoPhone) from Amazon. I have the full Nokia suite of tools so will probably try to unbrand it eventually.
Pitty one cannot install WP10 on a PC using a VPC. I see the Nokia Lumia 635 (no contract) for $50.00 USD @ a couple of places but not sure I want to invest in one to just test (play) w/ WP10 yet, I'd do it if I could install it on a VPC though. *Thank you for the Recovery tool link moderate.
If you are in the US, you can't actually "unbrand" it, because in the US variants there are far less CV, unless you got the international version. You can roam between different Product Variants, but not between Product Types. Thus on the rm-975 you don't flash rm-974 (and if you force, most probably will be a brick beyond normal recovery, as FFU download mode will be out).
Right, I do understand that the different models have different radios and possibly other differences, so I won't be attempting a different product type; but there is at least one CV available for the rm-975. I already unbranded my 920 and 520 to a Latin America CV from AT&T. The 1020 has something specific that makes it accept only the stock AT&T rom, I fear the 635 might be the same.
Yeah, a 925, 535, 520 and a Omia7 with an identity problem (its thinks its a Nokia 800 Thanks to the guys at XDA Dev) From what I've seen so far, its so close to WP8.1 you're not missing out on anything. So I'll just sit back and wait awhile. As for the CV's, can't you edit them ? Or was that just for WP7
Not entirely, on XDA and re-blogged about on Softpedia's site they explain how to make your non-approved Windows Phones, like the Lumia 1520 get the Technical Preview as well. I followed the very easy instructions along with downloading a certificate, etc and have WP 10 TP on my Lumia 1520 on att.
That's cool and I hope the other updates good as well, personally I'm going to risk a £350 device (and my main phone) when waiting a couple of weeks will remove 'most' of the risks. The issue is most of the guys on XDA know whats involved, risks that go along with doing this identity change, AND they'll reverse it when/if its necessary. 99% of the time when it gets re-blogged those risks are ignored or played down. Basically 'Click Bait' doesn't work if you include facts
@Lievre, thanks for sharing the info. But I'm still not risking my main phone. Now where did I put that 520.
Not working for me on a 520 and 920. Step 14, no builds. Edit: the instructions and included files assume the target phone is AT&T branded. I have loaded mine with unbranded LTA rom, thus needed to edit the xml. The phone you're "emulating" has to be the same region/carrier/whatever. Specifically, I changed "RM-975_1005" to "RM-975_1030" Granted, I did skip step #1, because I didn't/can't go back to the AT&T branded rom. That's why it didn't work.
Worked fine for me on my Lumia 520. Try skipping 13th step (don't disable proxy). Some people reported that doing this solved the "no builds" problem.
Update. Just to let you know that after more then a week running Windows 10 on my nokia 635, everything work well without any problem. Menu is different More option But (there is always a but!) the battery doesn't last as long as on windows 8.1. Presentation of everything in the phone is much easier. Lievre
