True, they will need to call it 1805 or 1806 at the current pace But seriously, that's what the RS4_RTM final final final final version number will be..
hmm, I was presuming the same, so I will wait further for any final build or CU for GA to make another clean installation
I can understand the confusion over RTM but OEMs are getting 17134.1 as well. The only difference between now and GA will be a zero day patch that will bump the build number to 17134.xx in the coming days. Microsoft almost always does this right before the general release. I am sure the CU will leak or the windows insiders will get it before it hits the public. So, grab a cold one and relax! I hope Microsoft learned their lession with this mess and it doesn't happen again with RS5.
Didn't the exact same thing happened with 17133? People said the exact things about it, and it proved to be a ghost build that doesn't belongs anywhere, not Insider, not RTM, just buggy dump.
All RTMs so far needed a ZDP or CU to patch several bugs, so containing bugs doesn't disqualify from being RTM build. 17133.1 showed all signs (Fast/Slow/RP-Rings, ESD and even a CU) and demoting it due to a game-breaking bug doesn't make it a 'ghost' build but an accident.
Yes the same happened with 17133 but unlike that build 17134 has no major bug. The little bugs like the settings one will be addressed in the CU in the coming days. Unlike last time I haven't seen anything about a delay or a new build down the pipeline. People seem to forget that Windows 10 is a non stop beta that will have issues at times. I am sure more info will be out soon to put some at ease. Also, they can use the CU to change it from 1803 to 1804 but 17134 will remain the same.
To be honest I don't mind the perpetual Beta state so much as I mind having to install a new build so early after what was no long ago considered RTM by the Internet, i.e. the "accident" build. We didn't know that 17133 had some major bug either, hell, if I knew that, I would not have installed it, obviously. At least not until Microsoft decided to tell us. I know this is the exception and not the rule, but it's somewhat hard to trust anything but a clear official statement, nobody wants to reinstall the OS and the apps again and again.
