Who says you cannot dual boot an upgrade copy of Windows 8? I purchased an upgrade copy of Windows 8 back in February, installed it once and went back to Windows 7, since the release of 8.1 I had to reinstall it, this time on a different partition as a clean install and upgraded to 8.1 . I now have a dual boot Windows 8.1 / Windows 7 machine.
