Depending on which processor he has, one of the graphics options is the HD7310 The first 5 results from Windows Update are graphics drivers specifically made for Windows 10, I never downloaded them, I'd assume both 32 and 64 bit, there is two revisions, 15.201.1151.0 and 15.200.1062.1004. I'm guessing if they developed the drivers for his graphics card in Windows 10 they must have also considered chipset drivers. Same for the AMD RadeonĀ® HD 6320. Same versions.
The 64 bit are usually the larger files, looks to me they came out with three 32 bit versions and two 64 bit version specifically for Windows 10, all dated in August 2015. the latest on the manufacturers website are Windows 8, dated 2012.
If the OP would do as 100 suggested then the drivers designed for Windows 10 should be found and that MAY help him.
There is also many versions designed by AMD for Windows 8.1, all newer than what the manufacturer has posted on their site.

So what would him reformatting have proved? From now on please use this, it will tell you if image can be repaired or not:
    In ADMIN Cmd Prompt Type

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

When you use the /CheckHealth argument, the DISM tool will report whether the image is healthy, repairable, or non-repairable. If the image is non-repairable, you should discard the image and start again. :D

Edit: Also give them the choice of upgrading or reformatting, upgrade have windows running, put DVD in tray, when it pops up on screen, choose upgrade, it just puts puts windows back on but saves all the persons files, we might not do it, but general public may:confused:

Did I come to the party late?? I was under the illusion that his is an Asus notebook, I am sure I don't smoke or drink,, I think!!

I have just noticed the words "Lenovo drivers"!! But when I checked the link, it points to a firmware NOT a driver!! Also, it is for HLDS (Hitachi LG), Optiarc (Sony) and Panasonic drives that may have been fitted to one of the listed Lenovo products. The SN-208DN is a TSST (Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology) drive, is any of the above a re-branded TSST Corp or vice versa?

It is dangerous to flash a device with the wrong firmware. The first thing to do is to check it is still working with anything after attempting to flash your drive with the wrong firmware (usually they have a fool proof process), ... then start the whole process from the beginning again..

You can try the wrong drivers, but you "may" dig a deep hole for yourself if you flash the wrong firmware..

Am I missing something? Was this a dream? Shall I go back to sleep?

I'm sorry, I see that you posted that you have an ASUS X55u. I don't see anywhere where you have posted specific information such as the Hardware ID of the IDE ATA/ATAPI controller.
Perhaps I've missed that post. I'll look through again.
Please either do as 100 asked or else please go to device manager select IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers expand that selection and choose the controller itself, it probably is named AMD something. Right click and select properties. Select the details tab and then Hardware ID from the drop down menu and post that information here.
    or
Do as 100 asked and we will both have the information from that file.

From everything I've read I still believe that this is the solution to your problem. I think you may have gave up on this too soon. It seems many people had the exact same issue.
If you can provide more details we may be able to help you to enable Windows to use that file or find the correct file.

Information such as when did you get the error that Windows won't use that file?
When you tried to install the package?
I assume you first tried to install the package and it installed correct? Did you get an error when you tried to update the IDE ATA/ATAPI controller?
    What was the error?

Lievre, The ATA\ATAPI controller is the part of the computer that connects the DVD drive to the computer, not the DVD drive itself. If the ATA\ATAPI controller isn't working right you will experience the troubles you are experiencing.

Lievre, If you go in device manager and expand ATA\ATAPI controllers does it say "Standard SATA AHCI Controller" or "AMD SATA Controller"?

Lievre, If it says Standard SATA AHCI could you please right click on it -> select properties -> select "Details" tab, then from the drop down menu select Device IDs, it should be like the third option and post that information here?

The onboard win driver hasn't changed for years, so little chance that it would be in a new build.

Exactly! That's why I've been trying to get the OP's Hardware ID for his SATA Controller, When this solution was originally put forward to him from lobo11 his reply was simply "i did what they say on the site but windows don't want to use those file." I understand he must be frustrated but I think there's a good chance he just didn't provide enough details as to how or why Windows did not want to use the file. Those drivers were dated March 19, 2015. If the Windows generic drivers were dated newer then they would be used instead of the AMD drivers unless you "force" them. There are also a number of 64 bit AMD SATA drivers on Windows update dated as recent as last month so there is likely three sets of 64 bit drivers available to him.
First we have to determine if Windows is using the generic driver.
Then if it is we have to get the proper drivers for him and help him install them, simple.

Edit, the generic drivers are dated June 6, 2006. but the version is 10.xxx and the AMD drivers are version 1.3.xxxx so it could be the version number that's stopping Windows from automatically selecting the AMD driver.

maybe the issue has to do with this specific model is does respond well to win10. i do find it puzzling that no optic driver will work for him.

I believe It's the SATA driver, NOT the optical drive driver, two very different drivers. Again, him providing us with a hardware ID and the driver for the ATA\ATAPI Controller will help us narrow down the issue

No idea, yes sata drivers are included with the chipset drivers package but on other sites a number of people seem to be having trouble with the driver not installing with the rest of the chipset drivers and when they install the sata drivers manually it seems to resolve the issues. The only reply we got from Lievre when Lobo gave him a link to the drivers was that "windows didn't want them". I'm thinking that the entire package or at least the sata drivers weren't installed properly.
Also, from the screen shots posted earlier in this thread he may be making the same mistake and may be trying to update the cdrom driver rather than the SATA driver.
A very understandable mistake, it's the cdrom that's not working. But the cause is the wrong SATA driver.
