Stopping at 40% with write error is an indication of a problem with your USB drive or cable. I suspect if you went back to the latest version of RMPrepUSB it would work. Was the problem with FAT32 or NTFS formatting? NTFS formatting uses the Windows API and therefore should give the same results as Windows would. FAT32 formatting is done by direct writes to the USB drive from RMPartUSB and if it stops at 40% then it must be due to something 'flakey' with your USB drive or cable. If you still have problems with the latest version please give me more details. I have not had any reports from anyone else that the new versions don't work...

The downloads are all at the bottom of the Tutorial 72a.
The download link is in the text under item 3 under the heading How to make a new Easy2Boot USB drive

Thanks Steve, it works now. Thank you for spotting the 'might be the cable problem'. I should read your tutorial more thoroughly. I run the latest RMPrepUSB (ver 2.1.709) in 3 different PCs running Win7, and Win8 in my office several times and it always runs smoothly. Thank you so much for creating this utility, you saved me the hassle of preparing the USB installation each time I need to re-install a Windows PC. :)

Does it support Windows 8.1 install ISO?

One flash drive created by RMPrepUSB and E2B can contain many more programs and tools than the multiple drives needed by the Maximum PC how-to. Why use five flash drives when one will do all?

Today I received my November issue of Maximum PC magazine. My letter to the editor praising Easy2Boot, RMPrepUSB and Grub4DOS as the ultimate thumb drive multi-use tool was published on page 92.

I consider my ultimate thumb drive as the prize. Thanks, Steve.

Shame you didn't win a prize - didn't you praise the Magazine enough ;-)

I guess not. I wrote that I liked their ultimate thumb drive article but it failed to include the latest and greatest utilities. I wrote about my do-everything drive built using RMPrepUSB, Grub4DOS and Easy2Boot. A few months from now I wouldn't be surprised to see a Maximum PC article on your utilities.

I am having an error that I hope you guys can help me out with. Here is what I have done:

    1. 2TB NTFS Ext HDD
    2. Used RMPrep and Easy2Boot to setup the drive
    3. Copied all bootable ISO's I wanted included (Most to MAINNMENU, Windows ISO's to the Windows folder and approproate subfolders)
    4. When I try to instal Win 8 it gets part of the way into the installation (just past the choose language screen) and then it halts and I get an error that says I am missing a driver and it won't let me proceed any further.

Any ideas? All the other ISO's work perfectly (Hirens, UBCD, etc)

If installing Windows Vista or later and using a USB HDD, you also need to insert a USB flash drive called a 'Helper' drive. This is explained in the Tutorial 72a on the rmprepusb site. Just find any removable USB flash drive (not a fixed-disk type) of any size and copy a few files to it. Then insert both the USB HDD and Flash drive into the target system and boot from the E2B USB HDD.

Easy2Boot v1.32 now supports multiple UEFI boot images. You can boot via UEFI to Windows Installers or many different Live Linux OS's (as well as in MBR\CSM mode).
    1. Prepare a partition image file (use the MakePartImage script and make one directly from an ISO)
    2. Copy the image file to your E2B drive
    3. Run WinContig to make sure the file is contiguous

Image files can be deleted or added to the E2B USB drive at will. Add as many as you like.

You can now make partition images to add to your E2B USB multiboot drive which include Clover.

This means you can boot to your E2B USB drive in MBR-mode, select your image file (the CSM grub4dos menu will then load), then select the Clover menu entry to run 64-bit Clover. From Clover you can boot to the EFI boot file in the image. This means you don't have to reboot the system in order to UEFI-boot from the USB drive using the system's UEFI boot menu option.
Only 64-bit Clover is included and Clover (being 'firmware-in-RAM') is quite hardware specific and so may not work on all systems (e.g. some Haswells using the integrated GPU). [Edit} Haswell issue is hopefully fixed in latest version.[/Edit]

    Try this

Drop the HP ISO onto the MPI AUTO FAT32 shortcut so syslinux v4 is used.

Then edit the \syslinux\syslinux.cfg file, we need to remove the hpboot_v.c32 text, and move vmlinuz, so

    kernel hpboot_v.c32
    append vmlinuz initrd=initrd.img media=usb rw root=/dev/ram0 ramdisk_size=947492 init=/bin/init loglevel=3 ide=nodma ide=noraid nopat pnpbios=off vga=791 splash=silent hp_fibre cdcache showopts noexec32=off numa=off nox2apic TYPE=AUTOMATIC AUTOPOWEROFFONSUCCESS=no AUTOREBOOTONSUCCESS=yes

    becomes

    kernel vmlinuz
    append initrd=initrd.img media=usb rw root=/dev/ram0 ramdisk_size=947492 init=/bin/init loglevel=3 ide=nodma ide=noraid nopat pnpbios=off vga=791 splash=silent hp_fibre cdcache showopts noexec32=off numa=off nox2apic TYPE=AUTOMATIC AUTOPOWEROFFONSUCCESS=no AUTOREBOOTONSUCCESS=yes

and the same for the other entries.

The problem seems to be caused by using the -d /system parameter when installing syslinux to the PBR - it just doesn't seem to work when using syslinux.exe v3.75. Installing to the MBR works with v3.75 but we cannot use that.
hpboot_v.c32 does not seem compatible with v4 so we have to remove it. I think the hpboot_v.c32 might do some sort of system check??? Not sure, but it seems to work.

    UEFI booting works fine though!
