Thank you Tito, this is exactly what I was referring to. The mod was done, but there was no information as to how; therefore we cannot reproduce it. If this thread is correct, this mod was done using the backup bios of that specific PC. Therefore every eeePC would need a new mod.
Can anyone elaborate if the bios that Tito linked contains a working bios for ANY 1215B or just for the specific one.
If I understood everything here correctly, this is just for the specific 1215B. We still need to know the method, which was used to mod the specific Bioses.
Thank you so much, Tito! It worked I modified my 1215B bios today and it works. I used: Bios Backup Toolkit 2.0 PhoenixTool 1.95beta 1 (needs the new one with the new Module support) Asus slic bin 2.1 I did: 1) Flash my BIOS to the newest unmodified ASUS Bios 0503 2) Used Bios Backup Toolkit to dump it. 3) Opened dump in PhoenixTool 4) Selected ASUS as manufacturer 5) Supplied ASUS SLIC bin (asus.bin) 6) left everything else empty 7) Selected New Module method (not Module method) 8) Clicked Go 9) Flashed with Bupdater Works fine, no guarantees of course! I think finally this thread can be locked and stowed away^^
Locking a thread is never a good idea, it discourages people from writing device specific issues into an existing thread and instead forces them to create another 1215B thread. I will flash the perm modified bios i recieved soon and will give feedback to the modder.
Tito is a non-permanent but universal 1215b bios possible using the "new module" method? I am fine with a personal solution but I was wondering if Asus has finally found a way to block universal mods (which make it easier for noobs)
The 1215B does not need a mod it ships with 2.1 already in it. I have had three total all with slic 2.1
Weird must be in forgein markets. They ship here in the states with Windows 7 installed. Maybe try the BIOs from a USA model.
Noop... they just lock the slic & it is controlled via another rom. So just updating to the latest us bios doesn't solve the issue There are tools like HP DMI Toolkit that are able to unlock these kind of locks in HP/Compaq bioses; but we need to find the ASUS one. SO modding it permanently is the best solution
Thanks Tito and nugat I did the same, but one more pass it was necessary in phoenix tool 2.05: 5.1) Select the OA30.TXT in KeyFile It works for me in my 1215B Asus. Again, no guarantees!!
Any chance to have a link to the needed files for the nice step-by-step tutorial a few posts above mine? Thanks!
