User harkaz from RyanVM Forums, is currently developing a unofficial SP4 for Windows XP, more info about it on first post!
I recommend that everyone who want to use XP after April 8, to download all ISOs of Windows XP (Starter, Home, Professional, Professional x64, IA64, Media Center and Tablet PC).
Agreed, and I also stand corrected on the security updates. Was unaware of the Windows 2000 post-EOL update releases also. It is very time consuming and taxing though to avoid getting infected, I run Firefox with NoScript, and BetterPrivacy add-ons and still, more and more creative techniques are derived all the time, that I thought I had defenses against. The only OS I know of that can claim the highest level of security is OpenBSD, they relentlessly audit the hell out of their code for OS and the popular applications they include in their repo.
FreeBSD, the least used and the most secure. I used to enjoy using it. I might have to revisit it. Thanks for the reminder lol
For a PC user like me I think having the Home, Professional and Professional x64 versions (in suitable languages) should be enough.
Yes, I think there will be some security updates for XP's final patch Tuesday. We will find out on Thursday.
It will be great if someone creates Windows XP Professional SP3 x86 VL + all hotfixes and updates + IE8 + .NET Framework + Silverlight + DirectX + MSE + WMP11, or at least opens a topic and post a How to
I plan on using the following software on my 5 year old laptop running XP x64:- 1. Firefox 28 (replaces IE8, and IE8 will be disabled for good!) 2. AVG Anti-virus Free 2014 3. Commodo Firewall x64 As for sandboxing, no don't plan on doing that!
