Sorry, it seems you missed a bit there: "Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is a technique designed to recover gas and oil from shale rock." http://www.what-is-fracking.com/what-is-hydraulic-fracturing/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydraulic_fracturing
@gorski: I stand corrected. From what I understood, it was mainly designed for pulling natural gas deposits out of the ground. Thanks for the heads-up.

IF the prices go up, considerably even, then and only then will deep see and fracking (if ALL the costs - both short and long term ones - are put on the table, including the earthquakes, water pollution, environmental degradation etc.) be short-term "profitable" - but at a considerable cost to us all long term. Socialised costs are socialism for the rich, something that is simply NOT on the cards, especially in the US/UK - for the poor, by any crazy and rather imaginative leap of imagination!!!!
Yup. It works. Check this out The trick here is to harness the energy released when the plasma is generated. Sodium Bicarbonate seems to be the best electrolyte. (i.e. It generates a plasma at a much lower voltage than the other chemicals.) Combine this tech with this http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0920379610004783 And you have a way of generating electricity directly from the plasma reaction. Let's see where this goes.
As far as I know in the US no new nuclear plants have been built since the 70's. There is one case where they are trying to bring the second half of a plant on-line that was never finished. The main problem every country is facing is what to do with the waste material. Some countries (Including the US?) are digging huge mines into mountains miles underground. Then they intend to put the waste material in there, concrete it off and put a big warning sign in some form of pictogram saying keep out! In case whatever race is around finds it x amount of years from now and for some reason would want to bore into it? You might want to look up Taylor Wilson. Also the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor - ITER
Seabrook, NH was finishing up in the late 80's early 90's. I personally knew some of the "construction workers" that built it and could tell you some horror stories but won't. Oh, that's easy. We make depleted Uranium projectiles out of it. [/sarcasm]
I guess my decades were off. I know I am This is the one I was thinking of.. https://wattsupwiththat.com/2016/10/21/first-new-nuclear-power-plant-in-u-s-in-20-years-goes-online/ The depleted projectiles scare me enough thanks!
After watching the nightly news, it sounds like Trump wants to offer all these nuclear projectiles to Iran for reneging on the deal they made with Obama
Just spreading the "love", that keeps on giving, and giving, and giving, around... With a half life of 4.5 Billion years. Gulf war - 320 tons in Iraq Since October 2001 - 3,000 tons between Afghanistan and Iraq. [sarcasm] We can do this because we are above international law. [/sarcasm]
@JFKI: That video is absolutely horrible, but it's a wake up call to those who think that war is a joke, and that we have done no wrong in Iraq. My thoughts and prayers go out for the people in Iraq.
@MJ: That was one of the "tamer" videos. There are others which focus on the birth defects and are much longer and show many more examples which are much worse. Then there are the ones showing the aftermath of our using White Phosphorous ( AKA "Whiskey Pete" and WP ) as a weapon in Fallujah. ( For those that don't know, WP reacts with water and burns violently and extremely hot, and the human body is 90% water. ) I honestly do not know which of those is worse. My thoughts and prayers have been going out for the people in Iraq since the Fallujah debacle. I also disagree that this is a war... It is slaughter, pure and simple. And I think a primary reason we won't let them build a nuclear power plant is the fear of retaliation once they have created their own Depleted Uranium. But who am I ?
Iran recently built and fired off a ballistic missile, If Iran can build a war head (and they are trying) you know they'll actually use it So much for the trust Obama gave them.
