Hey all, I have tested the PuTTY scripting commands in prodium´s (Jan 14, 2020) post for modding the vmx.v00 within an ESXi 7.0.0 b15843807 hypervisor host and it WORKS. - take the modded bios versions from: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/vmware-workstation-15-5-6-slp-slic-bios-efi-mod.64693/ - use the slic 2.5 versions - should be backwards compatible - rename the files according to the originals and follow exactly the commands in prodium´s post... Tested with DELL-OEM Win7 x64 in ESXi7 with normal BIOS as well as with EFI. Both VM´s were immediately activated after installation. Note: the 'rm -R' command can also be used as 'rm -Rf' to force the removing of the directories without user intervention Please note also that the ESXi7 hypervisor needs a hard disk that is bigger than 120GB to have a 'datastore1' volume.
Thank you for your replay and the modded files... And YES, you are right. It´s of course much better to use the "original" ESXi BIOSEFI files. But I´m using the modded VMw WS BIOS/EFI files for years and did not find any problems in my virtual machines.
Thanks, but i don't see the v7.0 SLIC version PS: if we try the add BIOS or EFI file to datastore VM directory and modify the VM config file. we would have to do it to all the test windows VM, is it possible to point it to a central location and have the config file load it from there ????
Yes, you can drop the BIOS/EFI into the datastore root directory and then specify its location. Example EFI .vmx entry: firmware = "efi" efi64.filename = "/vmfs/volumes/5f01ea54-9eac6dc3-538b-000c29877730/ESXi7.EFI64_SLIC.ROM"
Hello from Germany! Cant find any matching thread and it seems that im not able and/or allowed to create a new thread. So pls move this request to a matching thread. Thx! Question: is it possible to mod the setup routine from ESXi 6.5 or newer to get rid of the CPU check? I have a lot of DELL Precision T5400 and T3500 with XEON CPUs with VT support and 32 to 64 GB RAM and this machines fail the CPU check. Any workaround or other solution in this case? Thx and best regards Peter
Hi all Is there any way to inject the modded rom into Vsphere 7.0.1? It was working perfectly on 6.5.. but once upgraded, the only way is to edit the config file and add the bios file in the datastore posted earlier. thanks in advance
