etc, tmp, var are on my usb drive. how can i hide them?

    I restored my mac os x snow leopard install image onto a 8gb usb and when I click on it I see the etc, tmp, and var folders on my usb drive. How can I hide them?

    ^ No such option on an external drive. "Invisible" folders are normally always visible as there are no permissions on an external drive (not booting one). These would be invisible when booting from that OS.

    If you rename your folder with a beginning dot your OS is broken as paths would be incorrect.
    I should be possible to use Terminal to define visibility for each folder.
    Now without command line I like to use Path Finder.app to set extra Finder attributes.
