For all the Network, Security, DevOps and IT professionals out there, you definitely might have heard about the beloved virtualization software i.e. EVE-NG.

In this review / how to guide, I'll try to use as few words as possible but succinctly explain all about EVE-NG and its endless applications and uses.

EVE-NG stands for Emulated Virtual Environment, Next (or New) Generation.

It can be used by Network, Security, DevOps Professionals....you name it.

It is not only a virtualization software, it will connect various of your virtualized devices and you can thus build your own labs in EVE-NG.
So in a way, EVE-NG not only provides virtualization of devices, it provides the whole platform to virtualize and connect all those virtualized devices in their lab environment.

EVE-NG can be deployed on bare-metal (type 1 hypervisor) + Hosted (type 2 hypervisor).

Most users would want to use EVE-NG on their laptop, and this is what we are going to do in this video i.e. deploy EVE-NG in a Virtual Machine.

I am on Windows 11 Pro Operating System here, so I can use VMware Workstation Pro (Paid software),
or I can use the free alternative i.e. VMware Workstation Player.
(Let's go ahead with using VMware Workstation Pro which I have already installed.)

And just like VMware has its Paid and free virtualization software, EVE-NG too has both Paid and Free versions.
The Paid version is called EVE-NG Professional or EVE-NG Learning Center
The Free version is called EVE-NG Community Edition.

If you are serious about your learning and professional development for the future, EVE-NG Pro is a must buy!

But you can still do almost all the things in the Community Edition too.

I have included the Pro vs Community Edition Comparison link in the description.

    So the steps would be.
    1. Download and install VMware Workstation Player or Pro (Pro already installed in my laptop).
Link to download both VMware Workstation Player and Pro included in description.

    2. Download and install EVE-NG Client Pack for Windows. (Already installed by me in my laptop)
The client pack will contain collection of files that will help you manage your EVE-NG VM and all the devices you virtualized inside EVE-NG. You'll see that in the video.

    3. Download EVE-NG ready to go .OVF or .ISO
(I'll demonstrate both the methods and as recommended by the CEO of EVE-NG - Mr. Uldis Dzerkals, .ISO deployment is the best way to do it...so we'll do that first).

I don't think the explanation of .ISO and .OVF format is needed. And anyways, you'll automatically understand the differences between both when you see both the process.

Okay enough talking, let's get to the fun part and do all this hands-on.
