Thank you so much, without your help I will need to reinstall my Windows. Everything is working as expected now.
Hi folks, I have read last 10 pages but still confused about w10 upgrade-clean install etc. Wd you kindly make it clear for me. 1- Why we should free upgrade from win 8.1 pro to W10, and if activates succesfully , then some time later we should perform a clean install again? Is it a must or not? If yes , should I use an ISO install or reset this installation as EFA11 mentioned in previous posts? 2. My laptop has win 8.1 Pro, it was activated with MStoolkit. I hope upgrade does not create problems with MStoolkit? 3. Should I put bios in UEFI mode or in legacy bios mode? Does it matter or not?
My query is, I have many computers running Win 7 of various flavours. All activated by SLP, Slic method. If I upgrade to Win 10, and down the line decide I want to return to Win 7, will the Microsoft servers recognize the MAC address and kill the validation of the computers, effectively killing the motherboards for pirated Windows. I just cannot see why Microsoft would give away an operating system for life, that they say will be paid for after 12 months, I can't help thinking they are hoping to kill off millions of pirated machines, forcing people who prefer windows to have to buy a copy, having stampeded everyone into upgrading to avoid the expense. I'm afraid where big business is concerned I don't trust any of them, what they tell us and what they actually intend rarely match. The only other approach would be to buy a new motherboard, and mod the bios, so a potential big benefit for manufacturers of motherboards. Pc component sales have been down for a few years now, this is the sort of scenario that can kick it into life. No doubt a few conspiracy theories could be imagined from this.
This nothing more than irrational fear. MS could not kill off all those machines without major legal consequences and the SLIC on Windows 7 does not rely on activation servers
This is the scenario I picture, I've upgraded to 10, found I don't like it, so returning to 7 although the system will be activated, I then find certain upgrades blocked to me as my Mac address is on the list as upgraded. so I'm effectively locked to Windows 10. Microsoft is a business, it's sole function is to make money, which giving away an operating system doesn't do. What I contemplate doing is cloning the drives, upgrading, and returning the original drives, that way if I decide in the future to upgrade them, it will be free as they are on the server. I'm talking about 14 computers and laptops.
There is no point in Microsoft making Windows update block your MAC address (if it even knows what your address is) as you can download the updates using WSUS and therefore bypass windows update completely. It will cost them money to implement and it won't necessarily generate any revenue, you'd just run Windows 10 anyway. You either run Windows 7 that they already received money for or Windows 10 that they aren't going to charge any money for. People who are forced to run Windows 10 aren't going to be the type of people buying apps or music from Microsoft. I don't know why you'd want to downgrade to Windows 7 though, it is so much better. It will take some getting used to, but you may as well do it now when it's free than have a computer die in a few years time and be forced to change when you buy a new one & then have a mixture of versions. Windows 7 is EOL in five years time and won't be receiving any updates, therefore if you think your computer will last longer than five years then switch now. Microsoft are giving an operating system license away for the life of the device & I haven't seen what they mean by "life". For example I have seen life time hardware warranties that in the small print say they will repair or replace the hardware as long as it's in production. I'm sure Microsoft would love to kill off Windows 7 pirated machines, but if they are replacing them for free with activated Windows 10 then where is the conspiracy? The only thing they might be doing is trying to track all the people who illegally upgrade and it just shows as activated while they inform law enforcement. In which case the cost of an OS license is likely the least of your worries. Although if they could do this then why don't you think they would just kill off the pirated Windows 7 and not let you upgrade to Windows 10 either? Microsoft are giving Windows 10 away for free because it will help them build market share, which will persuade developers to write more apps, which they need to take on Apple and Android in the tablet and phone market. Most of Microsofts Windows revenues come from new OEM licenses, which are essentially free to the end user. What the give away does is shorten the adoption time, because they aren't having to wait 3-5 years for people to buy new computers.
Lol. If your windows 7 was a royalty OEM SLP key, they cannot stop you from going back to seven, and cannot lock you out of windows update. SLIC 2.1 is permanent license that can never be revoked. If you upgrade any other version of windows with free upgrade (retail FPP or upgrade 7, ANY 8,1 etc.) they will invalidate the old COA key after 1 month, and it will no longer activate online, even if it was a FPP. Since there is no SLP keys for windows 8, they can and will invalidate your BIOS stored unique key one month after the upgrade if you don't roll back. Simple.
Good day guys. I couldnt find my query posted elsewhere on the forum, thats why I am asking here in the general FAQ section. If it is listed elsewhere, my sincere apologies. My cousin's computer all of a sudden conked off (motherboard failure). He is planning to buy a new Dell Inspiron with OEM win 10 pre-installed. For some reason or the other, he doesnt like win 10, and he wants me to clean install win 8.1 from the original MSDN iso i have. Would the 8.1 clean install activate automatically, with whatever high-tech procedure, through hardware signature or BIOS or whichever way? Or is it next to impossible to activate a downgraded windows from an OEM windows 10 computer. A reply would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Windows 8 has the key inside computer bios....If he bought a Windows 10 machine it probably doesn't have a Windows 8 key in bios
So in short it means that there is no way can you activate any OS win 8/8.1, if installed on an OEM win 10 comp? Maybe only way would be to buy a key or KMS, wouldnt it? Thanks mate. EDIT: @beamslider I found this article by fluke. Maybe it might help someone with the same query as mine. have a good day. answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-win_upgrade/if-i-buy-a-computer-with-windows-10-can-i/017917d6-b02f-43c7-ad6f-98896696d3d4
Unless it's windows 10 pro, you won't have downgrade rights. The computer will be licensed for 10, and not 8, most likely.
And even if it is windows 10 Pro, would the downgrade rights be available after July 29th 2016? Or in the future obviously would that be taken away from the OEM channel too.
guys I have windows 8.1 I activate it with MTKV, and I have a notification to get windows 10? Is it safe to live updates to windows 10? or I need to go with another approach to get windows 10?
Sorry guys probably noob question. My company has all PCs with 7 Professional (OEM key), we didn't upgrade to 10 in July because some software were not compatible. Now we want to upgrade, but I didn't understand if we can upgrade to 10 Enterprise. The answer seems to be no, but I prefer your check! If no, we will go to Pro, right? Thanks!
Any idea guys? I would really appreciate a solution to this "problem". http: //oi63.tinypic.com/eapbpj .jpg Currently build 10586.3.
I was upgraded from Pentium Gxxx cpu to Core i5. My windows 10 Pro 1151 still activated I surprise about that, old Windows will deactivate when change cpu or motherboard
