There's a new service and some new libraries for AllJoyn support in modern apps. It's some Internet of Things technology. Not sure but there's a file D3D12.dll that got added.
The lock screen from Windows 8.1 has been refactored into a stand-alone app ("WindowsDefaultLockScreen") and there is a new "lock app host". So I assume it will be possible to write custom lock apps that replace the default lock screen. Afaik there is something similar already in Windows Phone 8.1.
On the other hand, was it not that line of thinking that produced Windows 8 with the emphasis on Metro apps and start screen, which most people protested against? So, maybe keeping the good part of the old stuff is not such a bad idea after all
Just right click the windows start button...plenty of shortcuts and options there including old control panel. I have been using that to navigate since it was added to windows 8.
For those that want old control panel you can go to right click on taskbar and go to properties, click on start menu, click on customize and add control panel and several other features to the start menu.
Build 9860 also has some problems with the display drivers, especially the onboard ones. Nvidia/ATI ones are working perfectly fine, but a PC in my home has a G43/G45 based chipset, and everytime the Microsoft's WMD drivers are installed, the fonts in my windows begin to disappear. If i Uninstall the WMD drivers, and revert back to Microsoft's "Basic Display Driver" (via Device manager), it becomes fine. Only to be installed automatically a few minutes later (even when i "delete" the display driver from the device manager). I wanted to know if i am the only one facing this issue or anyone else is also facing similar stuff. P.S. Yes i know drivers incompatibility is not a new thing in a "Tech Preview".
Thanks for replying, brother I have disabled it instead, and interesting this time it worked. The first time i tried it, it automatically installed the drivers back so i thought this method would not work.
Apparently, it fixes an "Oops!" on MS's part, which seems to be fixed in an awful lot of MS KBs lately: "The page you are looking for may have a new location, or is no longer available." But seriously, what needs fixing, at least here, is the Search button on the taskbar. It's never, ever shown any of my recent searches, whether they were made there or in Start. Baffling.
