Well, this is just speculations of mine, but there's only been two fbl leak (7955) and (7959) fbls are feature build labs all who contribute to winmain. so it is possible that the winmain version of today has been changed a lot by fbl_shell or what ever fbl handles the UI.
are you on ie? it will not work on ie i have no problems with chrome stable. i even tried on firefox and everything was fine.
Sigh.. Is it just me, or is my desktop compostion disabled, my windows media player wont open and user accounts keep crashing explorer??? Im using sCooby^'s method, but unfortunately, i have used NoPill before, causing me to create multiple slc.dll's, then forcing me to accidentally delete my original one. does anyone have an untouched slc.dll from thier build 7955's? I can't seem to find the slc.dll in the untouched ISO file. Where is it?
If you used NoPill or other pill before, it could be renamed to slx.dll. Search in c:\windows\system32 for sl*.dll, that original slc.dll file size should be 57 kb, date 2/26/2011.
is 56.5 kb ok along with the date 2/28/2011??? awesome dude.. Thanks! btw, there are some pretty interesting files in the install.wim. im looking into it. Anyone notice Windows Media Player updates it's library slower? (mine's still broken ) Also, Windows 8 seemed to lower my netbook's startup time? (HP Mini 1001TU, Intel Atom [email protected], 2GB RAM, [b/]60 GB 1.8" HDD @ 4200rpm[b/]) -----------------------[EDIT]------------------------ Oh yeah, anyone know why can't I install Office 2007 and Office 2010 beta on Windows 8? my Office is only 64bit so yeah... the installation seems to go backward :S
Thanks, yep on ie. On second thoughts will just skip all the file molestation, nothing different from the unlocked features in 7850and 7955. Using 7959 like win7 now lol. Already getting bored, if beta is going to be like this, will die of boredom.
If the Win8 Shell takes inspiration from Unity Shell, I will be very, very happy. It has a lot of interesting features. Ubuntu 11.04 / Win 8 dualboot for life! (And of course my Snow Leopard partition nDn)
Prefer the gnome shell to unity myself. On maverick (10.10) on one of my lappies. But looks like ms's trying to be a jack of all trades with a pdf reader and webcam app thrown in. Dont look like these'll match up to the sophistication of 3rd party tools even freeware.
I've tried Gnome Shell and I really didn't like it. Mostly because it broke my 11.04 install. I'm sure it's better, just haven't really tested it on Fedora/whatever.
In 7959 (compared to WinSrv2008R2): - low performance - CPU clocks tend to be a little higher when Cool&Quiet is active > higher loads in idle - high application launch time (I was used to not seeing office 2010 logo when launching apps like word, excel, but now I even see the animation) - very low performance on RAID 0 (at least mine - LSI SAS3041E-R + 4x500GB Samsung F3 ~ 150MBps fom 662MBps in Everest) though the "stand-alone" SSD (OCZ Vertex 3) looks fine - 415MBps vs. 556 in 2008R2 - some games do not render the 3D graphics (C&C3 shows pink background) - the multi-monitor taskbar from Display Fusion is rendered Windows 98 style - to manage the keyboard layouts you have to go to Control Panel (right-click doesn't have the option anymore) - CDBurnerXP doesn't recognize any optical disk drive (Nero doesn't install on winsrv) - Dot4USB driver doesn't install, though the printer (HP LJ 1018) works fine - strange - VMWare drives the Host Processes in Task Manager crazy (they use more CPU, get busy, crash, etc) - the "Friendly name" for my ODD isn't friendly anymore ([g6gny][€Ð-ŔΘМ Ðґіνê !!!]) but it works - ATI Catalyst had to be installed manually (but that's a WinSrv incompatibility) - the bluetooth patch for 2008R2 doesn't work but it' probably incompatible with this build (so Logitech's SetPoint doesn't install - for MX5500, MX1000, MX Air - but the peripherals work OK) - PerfectDisk Server is incompatible with this build Later edit: seems like the disfunctionalities of C&C3 and reportedly NFS Shift were caused by version 11.4 of AMD's Catalyst driver
That's a perfect example of people not reading responds on a post. After using the vista slc.dll, 3 updates appear that normally aren't for win8. This updates are "Windows Sound Schemes", "Microsoft Thinker" and "Ultimate Extras Sounds from Microsoft Thinker". This updates are all Vista Ultimate extras. Someone posted a screenshot of that, I think 1 day after the slc.dll was found working on 7955. What happens next is that some newssite finds the screenshot, doesn't read the reactions saying it's caused by the wrong slc.dll, and (what else?) they are telling that Ultimate Extras are back in win8.

unless you like server builds, 7959 is for you, but the bugs seem too much for an x64 version otherwise, you have to stick with build 7955, a fairly stable build, which only comes in a x86 flavor. It runs insanley fats on my 4 year old netbook.
