The build in sucks. It doesn't have multiple connections and I believe it can't resume. Even with single connection, the build in download is slower than IDM or FDM. I hope Mozilla just outsources the download function to FDM. Then everyone is happy.
@annieannie: Resume is a function of the server, not the browser. The Firefox download manager supports multiple connections and resume. Just right-click on the file being downloaded and choose "pause". And then choose "resume". I'm using FF v54.0.1 with no problems here.
With the DM built into Opera, I can download many files in parallel, pause, stop, resume or restart, see source, download speed etc. Also follow download progress in its taskbar icon while I'm using another function and get a warning on completion. As for speed, that's limited by the connection, not the browser.
Hmm, I think you are correct on the resume downloading. But how does firefox support multiple connections to download ONE file? Is there a configuration that allows you to do that? One of the basic feature of a download manager such as IDM or uget is that it supports multiple connections. ========== Multi-Connection (aka Multi-Segment): up to 16 simultaneous connections PER download - uGet's Multi-Connection feature also utilizes adaptive segment management which means that when one segment drops out then the other connections pick up the slack to ensure optimal download speeds at all times. Yup... exactly like that, that is what makes IDM worth its Euros 20. And the resume depends ONLY on the server from where the download comes. IDM has a pop up, that will tell you if they cannot resume and offer to reload the whole thing and start from the beginning. One mouse click.. Flashgot is the Ff addon that will let you choose which downloader you want to use.
well, there is no web extension version of flashgot for FF57. So I am staying with V56. The speed of V56 is already pretty fast now.
No, I don’t think the Opera downloader supports multi-segmented downloads either. If it does, it does it automatically without any signs, which is highly unlikely. So it seems this is the main, if not the only extra feature of DMs. On the other hand, the practical usefulness of this feature depends exclusively on its use. For example, by far my large file and/or slow downloads come from file hosts that don’t even accept DMs from free users like me. As for other, much smaller and thus faster downloads, I usually achieve steady max speed for my connection without interruptions, so I don’t see what the feature could do. ADDENDUM I also understand that DMs can download music and videos from protected sites that normally don’t allow downloading. If they can really do that, and do it well by supporting many sites, then it’s a much more useful feature. I currently use additional tools for the purpose.
IDM really works almost everywhere, and only someone who has never tried it, can compare the speed of any Built-In DM with IDM. In my experience, the best paid for software ever (for me!)
I read your post and downloaded Bitwarden, I must say that I am extremely satisfied. This has to be one of the best password keepers I have tried, hands down. No strain on the browser and better yet, no strain on the wallet. I don't know why people pay for password keepers like LastPass when all their information is just one vulnerability away from being exposed. Say what you want about LastPass but they got away with one by the skin of their teeth, the next time they won't be so lucky, everything, EVERTHING, is hackable, it's just a matter of how bad someone or some entity wants something. Bitwarden is free and all your passwords are encrypted end to end. If your like me and are looking for a straight up password keeper and nothing else (I don't store credit card, banking or any other private info on my system or in the cloud) that is secure, Bitwarden is it. It works on a bevy of different browsers also. Thanks for turning me on to this GOD666!
Both Bitwarden and LastPass do have free and paid versions. It really depends on what you are looking for and what you need. But I do agree, Bitwarden does seem to be more user-friendly, better supported, and offers more than LastPass. My only disappointment is having to relog into Bitwarden as it occasionally keeps logging me out. Glad I could help provide you a new alternative though.

To each their own, but I am loving how Firefox Quantum (Firefox v57) is faster and more responsive than Google Chrome. Even with a ton of add-ons loaded into my browser (see screenshot), I am finding Firefox Quantum (v57) to be using fewer resources than Google and still loading Google's own websites (YouTube, Gmail, Maps, etc... etc..) faster and more responsive than Google's own web browser. That actually surprises me since you would assume they would have the home-field advantage. Spoiler: so many add-ons and yet still so fast

I use WebRTC since uBlock only works when you have it enabled. On a few select sites, I do disable uBlock. I have a hard time understanding your reply since I am assuming English is not your native language, but I can assure you that Firefox does not add censorship to The Internet.
