They made separate versions of portable for a reason. Extract to folder and ready to surf. There are people that just use computers and not get into the bowels of how everything functions.

I just installed a Linux distro, Zorin OS Education 64b v. 12.2, on my son's PC and Firefox 52.5 ESR is OK on it, as opposed to 57 which created x problems...

My FF on Linux Mint got updated the other day to 57 and it runs good with no problems. The old version, 56, WAS TOTAL CRAP!!
A couple issues with Quantum, if you use it on older systems it will hog your processor, which causes a lot of heat from processor, will probably kill the battery faster too. It also has rendering issues on some sites.
How old is old? My oldest computer is about to be 11 years old now, which is over a decade old, and it runs Firefox Quantum just fine. What exactly is your system running?
