formerly activated OEM on new rig

    Hi !
    I currently use a legit W7 Home Premium which has been activated on my old rig.
    I purchased a new rig without any O.S. on it, can I re-use the afore mentionned W7 and have it legally activated again ?

    You may of course get away with it - other than that you must use another route!

    Depending on your local legislation it might be legal (such as in Germany), but usually OEM licenses are tied to the machine you bought it with. That doesn't mean that activation is not possible though.

    You might take a look at the Windows Loader from Daz. not legal but the result is a activated PC by OEM

    yes, use the serial on your sticker to activate, you might need to phone through but it will work.

    my legit OEM W7 was bought as an official dvd version, not tied to any brand of PC, which leads me to think thethingy is right, I'll keep Daz loader just in case.

    Try using the key and if it fails use phone activation to activate.

    OEM licenses cannot be transferred between PC's. Once you install it on a particular computer, that license key must stay with that system. Retail can be transferred, but cannot be installed on more than one computer at a time.

    thx for these additionnal information, nevertheless the microsoft activation FAQ states that (as you do) "cannot be installed on more than one computer at a time" which could be interpreted as "W7 has to be uninstalled from the former rig in order to be entitled for a new legit installation"...
    that still sonds confusing to me.

    Only with retail version OEM cannot be transferred.

    yes u can..if u have any problems activating use the phone option

    I must confess I'm rather baffled :) I'll try the phone activation anyway and revert to Daz if necessary. I'll come back to keep you informed.
