I was beginning to wonder if there would ever be anymore Official preview builds then I just saw Andre Da Costa post "XP, Vista and Linux user who want a free upgrade need to install build 10130 now!" Maybe it's some kind of cut-off point approaching ? Or He "Knows" there's a new build coming
I think he's just full o sh**t. By the Gabe recent posts, it's more clearer that there's no other option: You'll stay a insider forever, and get free windows 10, or if you want out of the program, just use ur 7 or 8.1 key because after you go out the Insider program your build will expire over time.
I have 5 Windows 8.1 PCs one of witch is an core (Asus OEM) edition. If I install 10130 (eventually editing ei.cfg) Pro version and using a MS account, will I be eligible for a activated W 10 Pro edition?
I would suggest you to wait for GA release, instead of installing preview on your licensed OEM machine.
But once you roll out of the Insider program, your install will expire and you won't be able to boot up.
NO, Core will upgrade to Windows 10 Home. Editing the ei.cfg will let you install Pro, but it won't activate without a valid Pro Key. The only other option is to join the 'Insider Program' with an MS account and stay in it permanently.
Microsoft has reaffirmed that Windows Insiders who clean installed the Windows 10 Preview can upgrade and activate the Windows 10 RTM for free, regardless of whether they have a Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 license. This announcement was made on Friday, and on Saturday was silently changed to remove any mention of being activated unless you upgraded from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. This caused confusion, but Gabe Aul has again reaffirmed that Insiders who clean installed the Windows 10 Preview will receive Windows 10 for free, and activated. Now you may be wondering why Microsoft went ahead and confused the situation by changing the way the announcement was worded in the first place. Well, in short, they did it to cover their backside. Soon after the original announcement, a number of media outlets began posting stories such as "How to get Windows 10 for free". This is not what Microsoft wants, and continues to advertise Windows 10 as being free for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users only. It does appear that upgrading from the preview builds to RTM doesn't get you a valid license however. You will remain activated (and can clean install if you wish once upgrading), but you will not have a valid license. This isn't something normal users need to worry about though.
Today Microsoft announced with great pleasure to themselves and great dismay to everyone else in the world that "Windows 10" will now be renamed to "Windows Uhhh.... We cant make up our @%#^$^ Minds". Stay tuned for more as it develops.. or not.. maybe.. dunno.. yes.. no.. dunno..
...if you remain in the Insider program. If you want to leave the program: Please stop quoting outdated web pages.
There are too many changes Windoze Insiders are going to have to go through, like upgrading every time there is a new build to check out, bugs or not, you think people are going to clean install, lose all there data, every time their is new build, you can't just stop, they be time bombed. People can do as they wish, but that is not for me.
I noticed that after having typed in my legit W8.1 license in place of the W10 license, the W8.1 was accepted and validated... what do you think it means for post 7/29 licenses ? the more it goes the least I understand
Yes, set your WiFi as Metered and windows will never download the next version itself. You know when and how to get the new version and be in control.
If you are on Windows Insider Preview build every ting you do and keystroke you hit will be logged and send to Microsoft. That is the price you pay for the never ending "free" Windows 10 Preview build.
