When I tried a new quad core cpu in my lappy (fujitsu amilo 3560 with phoenix securecore bios) it didnt boot, it turned on and ran some checks but the display didn't come on, no beeps. The CPU runs on a 1066 fsb and I only have 800mhz ram so I've got some 1066 on order just incase but I guess the ram and CPU speeds would be independent. I looked in to doing a mod on my eee pc so I know with that you could open the BIOS .rom file and look at a list of supported CPUs. I have got the phoenix bios editor version 2.2.1.3 which throws up errors about unsupported modules when I try to open my BIOS file because I guess my BIOS is newer than the editor. I'm in the process of looking for fujitsu laptops that do support my CPU so as maybe to use that BIOS file somehow. I don't fancy hex-editing a random file blindly, but that is about all I know ATM, and not being about to open my BIOS file fully because I have an old version of the editor, I can't even so that. Can anyone help?
