    No, got an asus-p5b.
    I'm a fan of asus, since i like my home-pc's oc'ed.

    They perform great.

The problem is the SSv3 sometimes messes with the memory allocation. I do not know if this is an issue with the OC, but since it is a Static address, it doesn't allow for a lot of latitude this way. We have seen that some boards capable of handling 8 gigs of memory cannot after a SSv3 mod..

Just something to think about. I do not know if this applies here, but you never know..

    Really ? Interesting.

Didn't know that. But still memory allocation won't interfere with an OC, take it that if u have the 8Gb mem allocation issue, you'd stick with 4Gb, and you don't set the timings too tight.

Yes, I could have gone higher if I had a more decend water cooling equipment.

    You're doing just 3Ghz with watercooling ??

That's not high at all. Got my rig @ 4.15 Ghz with a simple Zalman CS and an Antec900 Casing. Went back to 2.97 because of power consumption and mem tightening...

Well, my water cooling is the stock water cooling came with Thermaltake Kandalf LCS. It is really a crappy water cooling. At 3.0GHZ my idle temp is about 39c however when I went up to 3.2GHZ the idle temps increased to 60c. I know 60 is not very much and Q6600 can handle that without any problem however I preferred to keep my temps low so I decided to stay at 3.0GHZ.

60 would be considered reasonably high for any Intel-based system.
OC'ers consider it the max threshold to perform the Prime95 or Orthos Stability Tests by, and those temps can be upholded by a traditional cooling system easily, so better get good aftermarket air-cooler, and try again. You'll get better results. (I also advise to replace the NB and SB cooling fins by aftermarket coolers. It helps a lot in acheaving higher oc's, as these parts get very hot, and can cause instability between the 400-450 FSB regions.
Couldn't get higher then 3.8 with stoch cooling-fins on SB and NB. After replacing both with some better ACTIVE coolers, I could get NB and SB voltages up, and got to 4.15 without a hitch. Temps were 58 cpu and around 35 NB and SB under Orthos load. So could get even higher, but then cpu temps got above 60 degree barrier, and that would've hurt my cpu. So I stopt at that.

Power consumption went sky rocket, though, so I settled with 2.97 now. Temps about 5 degrees hotter then stock, being 27 cpu, 25 nb and sb idle and about 50 cpu and 30 nb and sb under orthos load.

So best put away that water cooling if it's no good. You can do way better then that with a Quad-core. Even better than me probably.

Thanks for the tips. Actually I am thinking of migrating to a Core i7 system. I will probably get some decent water cooling equipment as well as good heatsinks for nb and sb as you suggested. However the problem is these are not available where I live (I am from Iran) so I need to buy them from europe. Actually I am going to Switzerland for skiing, while I am there I might get some watercooling equipment as well.

Hoho, if you combine an i7 with some good watercooling ?

THAT'S something else, bro. Now we're talkin'

You should get 4.5 for sure, maybe even higher. But bad for the electric bill though. You should first see what's the max wall you get, then find a stable balance between fsb/memtimings, and leave it somewhere in between. Then you'll have your sweet spot.

    Sincerely

Wow, I didn't know overclocked core i7 has that much power consumption. So I better start saving money for power bills as well.
