Anyone know of a way to fix the installer so it runs on 2008 server? Maybe a Prism Deploy installer might work.
I have a Client ForeFront that doesn't require CD-Key etc. Not sure I would want to share it as it might get abused.
I've been running Win 7x64 RTM for a month and MSE (latest version) found nothing using the quick scan. I think the quick scan is worthless, best bet with this program is to select the "Full" scan.
I have been using Windows 7 RTM x86 with MSE for 2 months and have found nothing using either quick scan or full scan. This shows the strength of Windows 7's security features. I used Vista for 2 years and never had any malware either.
I'm coming from XP so I am used to a page worth of malware being found every day with AVG ! I figured something was wrong.
I know its a risky thing to do but I just can't take the performance loss required to run an anti-virus program, especially when you consider the fact the protection offered, even frequently updated, never really protects you from the latest threats; especially when the way in is some stupid un-patched, yet documented, operating system vulnerability, some major software provider refuses to fix. (Damn, that was one long ass sentence.) I must admit the only anti-virus software I have run in the last few years has only been the corporate version from Semantic, so my two cents might be completely irrelevant.
Sorry for the delay, real life was calling Here ya go - [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Antimalware\SpyNet] "SpyNetReporting"=dword:00000000 A value of 0= No Membership A value of 1= Basic Membership A value of 2= Advanced Membership The same as the values for Windows Defender. ************************************************ The truely paranoid will want to add this line to their host file also - 127.0.0.1 spynet2.microsoft.com Please note that this may or may not change once MSE is out of beta, but the location is easily checked in the registry section noted above.
It will not allow me to change the value in the regestry and even with that entry in the host file MSE still calls the mothership.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Antimalware\SpyNet right-click -> Permissions -> Administrators -> Full Control -> Allow EDIT SpyNetReporting -> Value data: 1 TO 0 -> OK
Works great; i was able to change spynetreporting value to 0. However, you have to disable first real-time protection, else you will be barred from editing the registry value. Re-enable real-time protection afterwards, and if you will look at the microsoft spynet page, you will see that basic membership is no longer selected by default. Yoohoooo...
It is not necessary to turn anything off. To change the registry entry you only need to to become the owner with full control. You either can or you can't. If you can't, you probably shouldn't be messing around in the registry, eh?
